Default Boat Repair & Is there a boat scrap yard?

OK I actually have four questions here, I'm looking for a nice long term
project 5+ years and I was thinking about repairing a large boat in order to
allow long periods on the lakes. I live on the great lakes so I'm looking
for something that will be a live aboard for long periods of cruising.
(Powered boat / not sail) Anyway I'd like to here some comments about the
following ideas.

1) I have tons of experience in all kinds of trade so working with almost
any material is not a problem. So what would you consider as a good boat to
(restore / upgrade) should I look for fibre glass or steel. I've been
leaning towards steel but no real reasons. Which one is better?

2) Is there such a thing as a boat scrap yard to find parts / motors etc. In
Ontario?

3) Has anyone ever considered joining two hulls with a tunnel to get a
larger live aboard? If I intend on using this on the great lakes and St.
Lawrence what is the maximum width? Is there any chance of even going that
wide? What's a good width so I can still bring it into a marina?

4) Taking money into consideration and the fact that I can do all of the
labour myself what boat or layout would you go with. Lets dream

There is a guy that has lots of boats that need lots of work in
Indiana at the south tip of Lake Michigan. I drive past the place
every day on I80/94. He has all sizes of power boats in all conditions
from some that need a little work to some that need the tree, that
grew up through them, cut down to move them. Some wood, some not.
E-mail me if you want more info. I can stop in and get his card.

Ok here ya go, It's called
South Shore Marina, Inc.
1700 Marine St.
Portage, IN 46368
219-762-2304

Interstate 80/94 at exit 19. I80/94 and I65 is exit 12, so it's a
little east of I65 on I80/94.

If you are looking for a large power boat project, this is the place.
Good Luck,
Dan
