Default Boat Repair & Is there a boat scrap yard?

OK I actually have four questions here, I'm looking for a nice long term
project 5+ years and I was thinking about repairing a large boat in order to
allow long periods on the lakes. I live on the great lakes so I'm looking
for something that will be a live aboard for long periods of cruising.
(Powered boat / not sail) Anyway I'd like to here some comments about the
following ideas.

1) I have tons of experience in all kinds of trade so working with almost
any material is not a problem. So what would you consider as a good boat to
(restore / upgrade) should I look for fibre glass or steel. I've been
leaning towards steel but no real reasons. Which one is better?

2) Is there such a thing as a boat scrap yard to find parts / motors etc. In
Ontario?

3) Has anyone ever considered joining two hulls with a tunnel to get a
larger live aboard? If I intend on using this on the great lakes and St.
Lawrence what is the maximum width? Is there any chance of even going that
wide? What's a good width so I can still bring it into a marina?

4) Taking money into consideration and the fact that I can do all of the
labour myself what boat or layout would you go with. Lets dream
