Default Even worse day for Sloco!

Well, I decided that owning a WRX was enough and passed on the new
one. Instead we have a Mazda Speed6 AWD coming next week. Silver, with
black interior.
Read it and weep, Sloco....

274 HP with 280 LBs of Torque
0-60 5.4 seconds
1/4 mile 13.85 seconds
Top Speed 150 MPH Limited
Top Speed 167 MPH Limiter removed

Outhandles the B Spec Subaru Legacy GT, the BMW 330 XI AWD and so on.
Basically it's a WRX, but with more power, speed, traction and
stability control and so on!

How's that lame Lincoln???!!!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Not bad Bubbles.
I bought my daughter a new MX5 and unfortunately can't get her out of
it so I can have a drive :-)

Pity you don't get the Mitsu product we get here

When it comes to shear performance, the top car here is the Mitsubishi
Evo, but that builder's entries in the USA is still experiencing
quality control issues that keep many away. A Subaru STI is a monster
in itr's own right, but neither the Evo or STI are really well suited
for daily drivers with kids.
Even with the 274 HP, the Speed6 has flaws. I noticed that power
flattened out above 5000 RPM and the clutch is a bit touchy, though
Suzanne liked the 6 speed. For a four with a turbo there's amazing
torque on tap above 2000 RPM and the AWD hookup will leave even faster
rear wheel drivers in the dust of the line. At 130 MPH the car is rock
stable, but I have yet to drive on faster. On a twisty back road (all
we have here in Carmel), I found handling to be equal to the Subaru
WRX in capability, but the car was more confident and relaxed. The STI
and WRX handle just fine, but often feels more daring than it should.
They can be a bit twitchy on their short wheelbases. I don't want to
say that the Speed6 is "better" because they are really different
animals and the boy-racer set will always love the Subaru and Evo.
We'll have the car next week and I'll post a few pics. About 1200
dollars in light mods can boost to over 300 HP, but I think the car is
plenty fast as it stands. A new Speed6 is due in 2009, which is not
far off. I hope Mazda steps it up in a major way so I can trade in.
I wonder how Sloco's lame-from-day-one Lincoln is doing. It's no joke
that my Sedona van is faster!

We don't get a car called a Mazdaspeed 6 here,
Is this the same vehicle?
http://www.mazda.com.au/mazda6mps/

Same car, Probably some small differences. Here a lot of folks are
calling it a grown up STI, but I see it more as a properly worked Ford
Taurus SHO, if you ever got any of those in your parts.
When it comes to quality I think that all of the Korean/Japanese/
German builders are working hard. The occasional problems are gonna
happen, especially with performance designs. My motto and anyone elses
with a brain in their head: "Don't Buy an American Car." The USA
builders have zero respect for the consumer overall and it shows.
After 45 years of driving mostly American cars even my old man had to
throw up his hands and drives a Subaru Forester XT Turbo. He's a happy
guy now with a wagon that can pull with a Vette and still get a lot of
antiques in the back.

Hey Oz , How come you never post pictures of your cars? Always a
newspaper ad ect. You would think a rich guy like you could afford a
digital camera. If I had such fine cars I would take a picture of
them. Infact I've never seen a picture of your boat either.

Whats Up?

Say what??? Are you saying that a Porsche GT3 or Turbo is slower and
less-quick than an Evo. How about a Dodge Viper, Saleen S7, or Corvette
ZO6? I think even a BMW M3 (07) or an M5 (06) will dust your Evo or WRX.

You can talk about hot econo-boxes all day long, but the real muscle isn't
cheap or at your local Japanese car dealership.

By the way, Bubbles, I just placed an order for an '07 Lotus Exige Sport.
Should be here in about 8 weeks. Black on black.

Haven't driven the new MX5, but we've owned a couple of Miatas in the past.
Great, fun little cars with handling that could stand a few more ponies up
front. I'm thinking the new car might be about right at--what--170bhp?

I'm helping a friend prodify his Miata (02) for SCCA racing. It should be
ready in about a month, which is a bit behind schedule, considering he's
already missed two events this spring. Should be a competitive car. The
engine has been blueprinted and is producing maximum power and torque,
according to Mazda specs. Tires have been a bit of a problem, but we've
finally settled on some Hoosier slicks, heavily shaved. Also going to use
Hoosier rain tires in the wet.

Not a ZO6--not even close. I'm betting you've never driven one. If you
had, you'd still be smiling and sweating profusely. Scary fast and quick,
like a 1300cc sport bike.

Max, while there are some seriously fast supercars, the Japanese have
matched them with cars like the STI and Evo, two cars that pull true
super-car numbers. An M5 won't dust an EVO. Still worse for a car like
the M5, cheap mods bring cars like the STI and Evo into a world of
speed that the M5 usually never sees. A stock EVO can pull 4.3 seconds
in 0-60 and do the quarter in 13 or less. Handling is true rally ready
level. The M5 is beautiful, the quality an experience all it's own.
But for shear driving enthusiasts you don't need an M5 any more. In
fact, when Nissan landed with the revised 300ZX twin turbo, it was
over then. Or for another good example, my Speed6 does just about
everything better than an Audi S4.
BTW, I tried to do a Lotus Elise, but I'm too tall. I consider it the
most amazing super-car built today for the money.

Max, a 100% stock Forester XT does 0-60 in 5.2 seconds and it takes
very little to get into the mid 4's. It's also AWD so the hook up is
pretty amazing. The Z06 can actually get under 4 seconds, so it's
pretty fast indeed. I would never buy a Vette because they still
aren't put together as well as a Kia Reo. Still, 190 MPH is pretty
amazing for any car and the Vette can do it...a whole lot faster than
even my 167 MPH top end Speed6. But in every day driving where it
sometimes snows, rains or the road is not track-smooth, the Vette has
drawbacks indeed.

So is the drivetrain more beefed up in the Forester turbo to handle the
extra torque generated by the turbo?

Don't think so.

If you drive it to take advantage of the engine you will pay for it with the
drivetrain.

Your warranty is void if you mod the car!

Moo ha ha!
