I've been in dozens of situations where, If I lived in the US and was armed, I would have been perfectly justified in shooting my attacker. I was thankfully not armed and as such took a beating once or twice but didn't take a life. On other occassions I was armed, but my training in the use of that arm (draw your weapon only when you intend to shoot someone dead) allowed me to think and persue other means.
