I think Capt. Neal has the right idea. He could have gotten one of those
old-fashioned mechanical clocks that are very inaccurate just for
tradition's sake but he must have determined the true purpose of a clock
is to tell time and to tell time with maximum accuracy. A quartz clock
tells time with greater accuracy than a wind-up mechanical clock that
only tells the correct time twice a day and that's only when it grinds
to a complete stop after a year or two in a salt air environment.
