It was the "White Rocks" just outside of Rock Creek which is the creek
I sail out of. The party on the boat in question set out late in the afternoon headed for Baltimore. Somebody I know saw them on the water from the Key Bridge with full sail in a big breeze. They said the boat's rail was buried and they didn't appear to be making headway. Everybody is thinking they got out there and decided it wasn't a nice day so they headed back. I think the tiller broke on the boat. How they wound up stuffed in the rocks is anybody's guess. I would think if you dropped sails and motored there wouldn't be any real load on the stub that was left for a tiller and you could get where you wanted. Another friend of mine who belongs to our club was out sailing and he thought it would be a good idea to head back in. He saw the boat in the rocks and raced back to the dock to call the Coast Guard. |
