Default US Coast Guard to stop polluting Great Lakes

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/20...844160-ap.html

I don't care about shooting people that are too stupid to remain out of
the ranges, but if I can't shoot ducks with lead shot, why should the CG
get to dump tons of the stuff?

Cheers
Marty

Not to worry. They're using depleted uranium.

Oh well, never mind then.

The small arms ammunition is copper jacketed lead. The l ship's larger guns
contain almost no lead at all. You think a 5 inch projectile is lead? The
Phalanx spews DU . There's no lead in all the AP stuff either.

Oh that's great then, being as how copper and the various compounds it
will form in the chemical soup of the Great Lakes is totally nontoxic to
aquatic flora and fauna right?

I would suggest you review the naturally occuring minerals that dissolve in
to the lake. You will see that they are far, far greater than any target
practice by the Coast Guard. Furthermore, Canada should pay for those
minerals deposited by the Coast Guard. Lead, cadmium, bismuth, uranium are
all valuable metals.

I understand they're using old CS boats as targets, eh.

That's a pretty poor argument, crap is already there so what's a bit
more? How much DU is "naturally occuring"? How about cuprous oxide?
(aside from the stuff that I put there using a product that's banned in
the US for use as an anti fouling paint)

Cheers

Think of all the tires that wear out on the road. Shouldn't there be big
mounds of rubber on the sides of the road? There isn't is there? Why?
Because bacteria eat the rubber worn off of tires on the road. There must be
a lot of those bacteria because trillions of them are run over by cars
everyday. How did these bacteria exist before cars?

The Great Lakes are famous for iron and copper deposits in their vicinity.
Man has mined large amounts of these deposits. Now, a small token effort is
underway to return these minerals to where they came from and you gripe!
What about those miniscule token efforts to fight Global Warming or the
Ozone Hole (now larger than ever years after claiming the Montreal Protocol
fixed it!) (Note that Montreal is in Canada - why are Canadians so
associated with failure?).

"How much DU is 'naturally occuring'"?

Decaying uranium gives off radon and eventually turns into lead. Canada has
minimum radon standards of 24 pc/L, the US of 4 pc/L. Are you going to hide
in your basement from these Coast Guard projectiles?

You get more lead from drinking water in Canada than from a gunfight in
Afghanistan:

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2006/...ter-study.html

http://www.myhamilton.ca/myhamilton/...er/QA-Lead.htm

The reason you Canadians are scratching your heads over this is because of:

http://www.myhamilton.ca/myhamilton/...alth/HeadLice/

Yes, there is that toxic goo you spread on the bottom of your boat to kill
the aquatic ecosystem. No one ever said you weren't a bunch of hypocrites.

Marty, go with Moroon and club a few baby seals. It will relieve stress,
improve your golf swing and upset more Americans than a few practice rounds
from the Coast Guard.
