Carter was terrible, but he's made up for it as one of the best
ex-presidents.

Until today when he crossed an unwritten line to avoid criticizing a
sitting president. Clinton has done this several times, but I believe
this was Carter's first occasion. While I agree with what he said, it
opens the floodgates for ex-presidents to rip on the incumbents. Not a
healthy precedent, and it lacks any semblance of class.

Actually Carter was a pretty good President. History is
appraising him more and more highly as time goes on.

Yeah. like any Bush/Cheney cheeleader is going to approve of
anything Carter ever does or says. Maybe if you didn't
constantly harp how he's personally two of the Axis of Evil,
this kind of statement might actually mean something.

Besides, plenty of former Presidents get involved in
politics. Look at some of George Bush Sr's statements about
Gore & Kerry. Look at what Eisenhower said about Nixon, and
they were members (in theory) of the same political party.

Partisanship is ugly and destructive. But apparently it's
the only semblance of real life some people have these days.

Carter lambasted the president for "torturing" Islamic fascist prisoners.

Okay, okay, I'd have to agree that being forced to listen to Red Hot Chili
Peppers 24/7 might be a form of torture, but if it gets results . . .

Ah, you like and approve of double-digit inflation? A slumping economy?

Whatever turns you on, Doug.

You're full of ****, Doug. I detest Bush. You are just too bound up in
your hatred of anything beyond the left wing to notice.

Besides, plenty of former Presidents get involved in politics. Look at

Gore and Kerry were sitting presidents??? Or did you conveniently ignore
that aspect of my statement (above), same as you do most of my other
statements?

Look at what Eisenhower said about Nixon, and they were members (in theory)

What did Ike say, and when? I don't recall anything, and I was here at the
time. I doubt if you were.

Partisanship can be very ugly. The country is divided, perhaps inexorably.
And people like you are as much a part of the problem as those you accuse of
being so. If you were non-partisan you'd be as accusatory of the left wing
as you are of the right wing. Nuf said.

About as much as I like the slumping economy, plus a war,
that we have now. But hey, we can't blame that on President
Bush, can we? No no, only Democratic Presidents are
responsible for the economy and then only when it's bad.

Carter accomplished a number of things, such as beginning to
wean the country from Big Oil... politically a bad move, and
he's still getting tarred & feathered for it.

Look up the conventional arms limitation treaty he put
thru... as responsible for the demise of the Soviet Union as
anything President Reagan did, and also gave the world a
decade of greater stability, less genocide, low-intensity
3rd world conflict, etc etc.

Than why did you not only vote for him twice, but whine &
kick and call a lot of people names because they pointed out
that he's not doing a very good job running the country?

For that matter, why are you still doing it?

presidents.

Can't address an issue head-on, can you? You always cite something the
opposition has done as vindication for the incompetence of your own party.
Has inflation ever come near the levels it did during Carter's
administration since he left office? Have interest rates hit the double
digits we experienced under his incompetent leadership?

No no, only Democratic Presidents are responsible for the economy and then
only when it's bad.

Carter accomplished a number of things, such as beginning to wean the
country from Big Oil...

Really? Wasn't terribly effective at it, was he. Can you cite something he
did that had lasting results?

politically a bad move, and he's still getting tarred & feathered for it.

responsible for the demise of the Soviet Union as anything President
Reagan did, and also gave the world a decade of greater stability, less

LOL. Of course all the myriad other factors that played a part in those
aspects of the years following his departure from the Oval Office were
inconsequential, right? He did walk on water, didn't he?

From downwind it would appear you are.

I changed my mind regarding the man subsquent to some things he's done in
office. Unlike you, I'm not an inflexible demagogue.

For that matter, why are you still doing it?

You haven't been paying attention, but that's not surprising, considering
your dogmatic view of everyone with whom you debate. I'm still a
libertarian with some conservative beliefs, but that hardly means I'm
supportive of the current administration. You are still a liberal, and I'll
always disagree with your beliefs, but, again, that hardly makes me
supportive of Bush.

You, OTOH, are still a trumpet for moveon.org.

Ah, that's what I love to see--arch enemies (Doug and Bubbles) coming
together to combat the common foe. How refreshing.

Clinton presided over what might have been one of the most prosperous
economic times in our recent history.

Of course everyone seems to have conveniently forgotten that the economy was
heading into the toilet during his last year or so.
