These are the boats I spent some time on WOW Bubbles, we're all SO impressed! ... I am NOT an experienced sailor of these boats. We could tell .... I believe you need to stay in shape/practice for that kind of sailing on at least a weekly basis. So, you admit now you're overweight & out of shape? My goodness it must be true confession time. As for weekly practice, if you're looking to play the majors, then yes. Otherwise, it's like riding a bicycle. Once you acquire the skills & reflexes, they don't go away. I haven't sailed a Laser more often than a few hours a year for the past 15 years, but when I jump on one, it's lots of fun. Sorry you didn't make the fast sailboat list, Doug. Apology accepted, but not necessary. 1- I don't give a rat's patootie about you or your lists 2- I've owned and sailed more performance boats than you've ever heard of ... You traded in your sailing dreams for a powerboat. ??? What part of "cruising with family" do you not understand? And I still sail more (and better) than you ever will. DSK |

Well, then..since I've done some dinghy sailing this summer I'd probably trounce you with ease. I'm naturally stronger than you and I run. I'm also younger and sailing the 35s5 3 times a week on average. You "sail" a powerboat. Apology accepted, but not necessary. That's a good step in the right direction, Doug. You must learn to accept pity and we all do feel badly for you. 1- I don't give a rat's patootie about you or your lists And yet here you are, posting in my thread about sailboats while you don't even have one. Odd, eh? 2- I've owned and sailed more performance boats than you've ever heard of Golly. We're all VERY impressed with you, Doug, I'm sure! Sailing boats people have never heard of sure is amazing! ??? What part of "cruising with family" do you not understand? You're "powering" with family. You chose a powerboat. This group is comprised almost entirely of people who own cruising sailboats. And I still sail more (and better) than you ever will. Well, the first part is untrue. I sailed 4 out of 7 days last week and will be sailing Wednesday, Thursday, then sailing with friends to Cold Springs for swimming and an overnighter on Saturday/Sunday. As for the "better" part...we can only guess. I hope you're having fun somehow, Doug. Really. Now...fuel up that bad boy! Yikes! RB 35s5 NY |

Yep. I chose a power boat that was the most practical for the type of cruising we want to do. Total bull**** from Doug. He could have cruised on a sailboat. He simply chose to "drive" over sailing. The folks I know who are retired and cruising for real would never consider a powerboat unless their health was a factor. Are you damaged in some way? RB 35s5 NY |

Yep. I chose a power boat that was the most practical for
the type of cruising we want to do. "Capt" Rob wrote: The folks I know who are retired and cruising for real would never consider a powerboat unless their health was a factor. That's because they're dumb. Most cruisers I've ever talked to complain about how often they had to motor (wind too light, too strong, wrong direction), they need a bigger fridge, they ran aground too often, had to wait for bridges, couldn't make it to a good anchorage, batteries not holding a charge, etc etc etc. A trawler makes the most sense for the type of cruising we do, so that's what we got. So far, it's been great, and we're just getting started. DSK |

We have quite a few cruisers and liveaboards here as well as passing through. Some chose sail and others chose motorsailors. I can easily see the appeal of the latter. And if my arms or back were badly compromised I might choose power rather than having nothing at all. But to be stuck on a boat that can NEVER cruise without the sound of the motor churning away, spewing filth into the air and water? No thanks! That's not what it's all about, Doug. Sorry you need a bigger fridge and have so many bridges to get by. I guess that rules out a sailboat because you MUST be at the anchorage by 3:00 sharp with fresh batteries. Great woogily boogers! In any case, this is alt.SAILING.asa and you're a powerboat 100% now. Others are polite about it, but absolutley no one truly believes the BS about why you dropped the dream of a cruising sailboat. Ever hear of a Nauticat or any of the other motorsailors out there? Some people have enough character that a small fridge wouldn't keep them from a sailboat, Doug. Keep dreaming, Doug. But it does sound like even you have given up on what you truly want. RB 35s5 NY |

Only to those who deserve it I know a certain fella, who traded in his sailing dreams for a powerboat, who awoke on the bitter side of the bed this morning! BWAHAHAHA! RB 35s5 NY |

Still, I have to question why Doug, who has no sailboat at all, let alone a fast one, is posting in a thread about why his "powerboat makes sense." Really really odd. But funny! RB 35s5 NY |
