![]() PDQ 36: Jeff's PDQ may not point or tack as well as my 35s5 or Donal's 33.7, but for flat out speed it's unmatched my the monohulls here. We should take note that Joe reports his 43 foot motorsailor is faster with a hull speed (he claims!) of 13 knots. Beneteau First 33.7: It's hard to know if Donal's 33.7 is faster than my 35s5, but with her slightly longer LWL and deep draft I feel that she may be a hair faster with both boats on an optimum reach. Beneteau First 35s5: I've topped 10 knots and I can confirm Donal's reports on these boats having truly exciting speed potential. My Pearson 30 and C&C 32 were fun, responsive boats, but the 35s5 is like a starship compared to my old shuttle crafts. Express 30: It may be dated and ugly, but the Express 30 is fast enough to keep pace with many larger boats. She's really only a hair slower than the Beneteau's above and is stellar in a round the cans format. If not for her lines and interior, she'd be a legend. Oh well. Kirie Elite 32: Yup, while Katie probably turtles about, the Elite is actually a pretty quick boat. And THAT'S IT. The rest of you have tired, dilapidated nautical footnotes that can't get out of their own way. Crippled Sea Cucumbers laugh as they pass you. You find yourself saying things like, "She really does well in a blow," and "She'd surprise you." Yeah, okay. RB 35s5 NY |

This has the potential to be one of the great trolls of all time.
Why? Honesty! Compliments! Admitting the 35s5 may not be the fastest! This may get ugly folks. I am so glad I don't own a boat or even sail! Amen! "Capt. Rob" wrote in message oups.com... If you want to capture the feeling of ownership, you can come over, help me sand & varnish. Or if you'd rather, another ongoing project is laying up carbon fiber on the new dinghy. Or just come visit me and actually go sailing without any of that work. My dinghy and the little Yamaha 8 is sitting at the dinghy dock as well. RB 35s5 NY |

![]() Honesty! Compliments! Admitting the 35s5 may not be the fastest! Hey, your have to admit...I handled it perfectly and stuck with the facts. That drives Doug out his tiny mind! He's now busy, VERY busy trying to defend his TRAWLER in a thread on fast sailboats in a sailing forum!!! His best comment was on how so many sailors "won't admit" that a trawler is a good idea, while ignoring the fact that taking the train may also be more practical...and about as much fun as the trawler! He's stamped POWERBOAT on his own forehead and all I did was give him the ink. Poor Doug got no help from Scotty Potty or anyone else either! Won't someone please defend his trawler in a sailing NG???? Ahhh, aint life grand?!! RB 35s5 NY |

Won't someone please defend his trawler in a sailing NG???? Ahhh, aint life grand?!! I think Doug's choice of a trawler was well thought out and practical. I really admire him for his rational, practical thinking. Plus he is not apologetic about his choices. He thinks for himself and I consider that a vary good essential trait. I don't always agree with his choices, but I do have high respect for them. |

And a number of my friends have or are thinking about moving from sail to power, with trawlers being the boat of choice. They haven't necessarily given up on sailing, just on the practicality of owning a large sailboat given their individual circumstances. One, in Boca Raton, lives on a canal on the wrong side of a couple of fixed bridges. Wants a boat he can keep at his house, rigged and ready. This is the guy who taught me to sail when we were both teenagers. His decision makes sense to me. Other similar stories. Doug's probably just as rational, but if not it would be only an opinion and none of my business anyway. Frank |

![]() And a number of my friends have or are thinking about moving from sail to power Any thinking of just selling their sailboats and buying a good rock tumbler and maybe also maybe take up playing the banjo??? Cuz that's what it means to give up sailing. You don't compromise by buying a trawler. Compromise would be a Fisher 37 or a Nauticat. A trawler means you GAVE UP SAILING. Period. And spare me the crap about sailing dinks around. Doug doesn't do it anymore. If you haven't time for a sailboat, you haven't time for a trawler and a dink! Your friends are as gay as Doug.
