Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it.
Never buy a new, from the ground up model, unless you are a gambler and risk taker. I just bought a new 2006 Acura MDX Touring model. I bought it BECAUSE they were going to make radical changes in 2007. The 2006 has been refined and improved through 4 model years and is near perfect, as vehicles go. 17 MPG in town, 34 MPG hwy at 50 MPH, 23 MPG at 75 MPH, 23.3 in my normal mix of driving (first 2,300 miles). Has a great navigation system, backup camera and sensors, Bluetooth, heated leather seats, AWD, OnStar, XM satellite radio, DVD player & screens, dashboard tire pressure warning lights, and other features too numerous too mention. Everything is controlled by over 500 voice commands. Eg: Just say, "temperature 68" and the car replies, "temperature 68 degrees," and then adjusts the temperature as requested. It even came with software and cables to read the on board diagnostics (OBD-II) and reset the check engine light, if you want to do all the maintenance yourself. Jealous? Now that's funny!!!!!! I just bought a new 2006 Acura MDX Touring model. I bought it BECAUSE
they were going to make radical changes in 2007. You bought a dinosaur that Honda has been racing to replace for two years! You DID NOT RESEARCH the car. The 2007 MDX addresses all of the flaws in the old model. The worst flaw and the reason I chose a Subaru Tribeca over the MDX is that the MDX loses ABS breaking when traction control engages. The systems won't operate at the same time, causing a pause between them. The Pilot suffers from the same problem. The new MDX will be a great car, probably trumping the Tribeca after correcting that flaw and adding even better handling and a LOT of power. There is no 1st generation cars anymore. The new MDX will be very refined and bug free, just like my Tribeca or the new Infinity RX330. The MDX is the ONLY SUV under 5000 lbs that can come close to matching the Tribeca's crash rating., but the new MDX will have the most car-like handling ever. Almost all current MDX's are leasing now because everyone wants the new model when it comes along! It will be a huge jump over the current model in every way. It will also slam resale on the old models of course. The two best SUV crossovers are the Infinity RX330 and the Subaru Tribeca. Both have state of the art AWD systems, while the old MDX does not. Great move, JlRogers! You suuuure did your homework! I always what kind of sod buys a car just as the improved model is being released. Now I know! RB 35s5 NY |

Why would one want a 5000 lb vehicle to handle like a car?
Wouldn't it be safer and more prudent if one was constantly reminded through the handling of the vehicle that it weighed 5000 lbs, especially when it comes to stopping, cornering and for economy when accelerating? My solution to this whole mess is to outlaw power steering. Then these "soccer moms" in those 5000 lb SUV's wouldn't have two free hands (one for the cell phone, the other to eat the burrito) while they are driving at 30+mph through a school zone loaded with kids. That or bomb the oil fields. Amen! |

Car like handling refers to good handling that can get a driver out of trouble faster than a ponderous truck. These crossovers weigh over two tons, but they have tweaked them so that they are not ponderous to drive and have excellent stopping. The whole point is to NOT end up with a truck. RB 35s5 NY |

I am really tired of them. In addition to banning ps, we need to ban cell
phones for certain individuals while driving. If you have a child in the car, the driver should be banned from using the cell phone. A woman just ran over a crossing guard (fortunately didn't die) while chatting on her phone. She had three kids in the car, including an infant. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "Bob Crantz" wrote in message . .. Why would one want a 5000 lb vehicle to handle like a car? They feel like a car. They are a truck especially considering the high Cg. They roll over like trucks. In fact, much more frequently than cars. Show me a 5000 lb SUV that handles the road cone slalom better than a Toyota Corolla. |

They feel like a car. They are a truck especially considering the high
Cg. They roll over like trucks. In fact, much more frequently than cars. My Tribeca has an VG rollover rating, outhandles a Toyota Corolla of course and doesn't just "feel" like a car, it handles better than quite a few both in grip, handling, stopping and so on. There's no excuse for bad handling in 4-5000 lb vehicle any more. Even my new van handles quite well compared to the older models out there and it has the power to get clear of trouble as well. Or as Autobytel found in their preview test drive of the Kia.. Falling somewhere between the taut Honda Odyssey and the soft Toyota Sienna, the 2006 Kia Sedona's suspension provides a great blend of ride and handling, but occasionally the driver can feel a rubbery lack of wheel control over bad pavement. It's not harsh, and it's not loud, and it could probably be erased altogether with additional tuning. Handling is impressive for a minivan, as we discovered during a downhill run from the Palomar Mountain area that included multiple 25-mph hairpin turns. Pitching the Sedona into those hairpins at twice the recommended speed resulted in plenty of body roll and tire scrub, but in high-speed sweepers the 2006 Kia Sedona's weight transitions predictably and the tires offer good grip. And of course the Tribeca handles even better with it's 18" wheels and AWD. RB 35s5 NY |
