No kidding. Would you trust you life to one of these
ar freeway speeds? I noticed there are two other versions, a couple and convertible sports car, and talk of an SUV version. My main interest is in a diesel. It is disgraceful the diesel version is not available in the US. I wonder if I bought one in Canada and drove it down here, if I could get it through DMV. Perhaps I should just register it in Canada? "Capt.Mooron" wrote "Bart Senior" .@. wrote I'd buy a diesel version if it was available in the US. 95mpg is fabulous. I was looking them over at the local Mercedes dealership here. The turbo diesel sits on the back axle and it's a rear wheel drive. 6 speed stick or paddle shift. It's a cool little car. I was pricing one of the convertible models with leather seats, A/C, power windows etc.... 23K Cdn. It's the fuel and manoeuvrability aspect for in city driving that really caught my interest. CM |

"Scout" wrote in message Thanks for doing the math Bart. I don't understand why they can't put the specifications in the correct, American terminology. I understand you guys have the special "AutoCad- 'Imperial' ver.10 now. :-) Did you need the conversion to "Chains" & "Spans"???? Gunter or Surveyor? Cheers Marty |

I've got a video of one hitting a concrete slab at 60 or 70 MPH, the front crumpled just as designed, passenger compartment maintained it's integrity so well that the passenger side door still opened and closed normally, (drivers side opened by would not latch when closed). I think the folks at Mercedes know what they are doing! Cheers Marty |

Think Again Bart..... this one shows a video of a smartcar hitting a concrete barrier at 70mph!! You'd easily live through it with front and side airbags. The doors still opened and closed. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/60538/smart_car_crash/ This thing has passed all crash test ratings. I noticed there are two other versions, a couple and convertible sports car, and talk of an SUV version. Hmmmmm.... can't see a 4x4 of this car at all. It's transport pure & simple, not a replacement or smaller version of an existing design. My main interest is in a diesel. It is disgraceful the diesel version is not available in the US. I wonder if I bought one in Canada and drove it down here, if I could get it through DMV. Perhaps I should just register it in Canada? I understand that is already being done by Americans... but as far as I know, the vehicle is not currently available in the USA.... in diesel or gas. I'm looking at the convertible. CM |

Thanks! Its a 1961, and since it's a classic I do not have to deal with
emissions inspections. I was thinking of dropping a 289 in her, but with the way gas is going I'm keeping the 144. Going to get it painted back to the original Poppie Red and white. Also just got a set of original spinner hubcaps. It's great around town but tops out at 60 on the highway.... unless you draft on a motor home or semitruck. Joe |
