I sure Ringmaster has proudly taken his first step into excersizing
his First Amendment Rights and, with our prodigious coaching, will flourish and grow! Happiness is a warm gun! The AR is not my first gun. It's my post Katrina purchase. |

Aimpoint was the original red dot sight. I have one on my Hammerli
target pistol. And yes, it is an optical sight. Exactly. Maybe you should send Wiley a photo. He thinks red dot sights are lasers. He's an expert. |

Hey, try telling Ringmaster. I've given up.
Your giving up because with every post you make yourself look dumber and dumber when it comes to the AR or maybe gun related topics in general. Lets see ............... there's no difference between a 223 and a 5.56, a 18" shotgun would make a better home defense weapon (how many rounds will an 18" shotgun hold?) red dot sights are lasers and you are familiar with all the Maryland gun laws. Where did you say you were from? |

At least in my state. I dunno. Is it a mantra you chant? Anyway, while no doubt you're incorrect, keep chanting. Try a Google search on 'shotgun minimum legal barrel length USA' and you'll find that the min legal length for a shotgun is 18", as I stated above. Nowhere did I mention anything about a sawed off shotgun, and either you know it and are trying to obfuscate, or you actually don't know that an 18" barrelled gun is legal. So you've learnt something new - again. FWIW, in fact it is NOT illegal to own a sawed off shotgun, *unless* you reduce the bbl length to less than 18". So you're wrong when you make general statements, too. Yep, just what you need for home defence, optics..... I'm not talking 9x scopes here. Red dot or holigraphic optics are perfect for defense, home or otherwise, since you shoot with both eyes open. Have you seen those. I've seen them, used them. A laser dot sight isn't generally referred to as an optical sight. They have pluses & minuses but I don't think one would be a bad thing to have on a gun used at 'point & shoot' ranges, personally. The military uses them every day. Yeah and they *train* with them regularly too. How much range time are you going to put in doing laser dot 'point & shoot'? Your trying to come off as an expert here but you continue to look uneducated on the topic. OK, fine. You've demonstrated the same level of knowledge of guns as Bobsprit does about router bits. I'm happy to ignore you. PDW Thompson sold a 14" .410 barrel for the Contender pistol. Yeah but it wasn't a smoothbore was it? Never paid a lot of attention to those so I dunno, but I'd have thought it'd fall under the restricted class if it wasn't rifled. It was rifled in the broadest sense of the term, but the lands took imagination to see, IIRC. Max You can see them he http://www.tcarms.com/TC_HTML/TC_G2_Pistol_CalChart.htm referenced he http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/php...9fe3 556c33f6 and here it says the pistol barrel must be rifled for the .410: http://www.packing.org/community/gen.../?thread=11557 Glory! |

The one I shot was chambered only for .410, was rifled, but the lands took imagination to see. Perhaps the company has had to alter that barrel to remain on this side of the law. Max |

The Cadet action is too small. I already have a 45 hex barrel in the parts bin. PDW |

I'd expect the best post-Katrina purchase to be a couple of really surly Rottweilers. Not really. There have been a number of people mauled by dogs lately, even an elderly woman and a kid killed in seperate incidents. In all cases the dog owner was in deep dog crap over it - even when his dog bit a kid that wandered into his own yard. The woman who owned the pit bulls that got loose and killed the older woman went to prison for manslaughter!! OTOH, no gun ever shot anybody on its own. Also, given the liability problem, Rottys, Dobermen and other "police" or "attack" breeds should be avoided else the other guy's lawyer will claim that you're a vigilante and bought the dog hoping it'd bite somebody. It's a bad scene out there. A kid I know works for a towing company. Over a year ago a drunk showed up in the middle of the night demanding his impounded car back. When the kid explained that he couldn't release it without police permission the guy attacked him so the kid stabbed him with a screwdriver. Even though the wound wasn't life threatening and was in self defence the cops put the kid in jail for a couple days til a judge released him, then he had to sweat til the DA decided not to prosecute, then sweat some more until the drunk lost the lawsuit. Meanwhile, he couldn't leave the state. |

I can't speak for anybody else but, having modest familiarity with Maryland gun and self defence laws and jurisprudence I can say that I avoid Maryland whenever I can and if I lived there I'd move. Maryland law does NOT permit you to defend your home. If it is invaded, you must run away if possible. You may only fight back if you are cornered like a rat and threatened with death or great bodily harm. Robbery or a minor as kicking does not suffice. So, if there ever is looting and violence like ocurred in New Orleans, you best flee. That AR-15 will just land you in prison. |

Katy,
I've sailed with about a half dozen ASA'ers and their friends; each time has been enjoyable. I've found that in person they leave the rough side on the discussion group. In person they are simply plain old sailors http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage |

Vito,
Sorry to hear of your health problems. I hope you can hang in there. I've been able to do it for 17 years with Myastenia Gravis before "Beaching Myself" I've been very lucky. I hope the same for you. http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage |

Except for me. I'm the same here as I am anywhere. In fact, I'm tamer here. |

Katy,
The East Coast is subject to the very same condition that hit the Gulf Coast. I wish there was a scenario to protect Life and Property when inferstructure fails but I don't know of one. http://community.webtv.net/tassail/ThomPage |

To Colorado, is it still legal to shoot your wife there? ;-) Cheers Marty |

With all the traffic here, it is sometimes hard to figure out where you're coming from unless I do a complete search of the thread (which is a royal PITA) |
