I found that years ago Americans were tolerated but disliked.... whereas now it seems they are despised and avoided. Bull****. You watch too much liberal TV and believe the half-truths and distortions you see. My last trip to China was a real eye-opener. We were informed beforehand that we might get a less-than-friendly reception. To the contrary we were treated like visiting royalty. The Chinese kids in Beijing were so interested in us that they almost wouldn't leave us alone. And the adults all wanted to know what it was like to live in the USA. We stopped in Germany on the way home and were likewise treated warmly and with respect. The only minor glitch we encountered was with an overly officious jerk in the customs office at JFK International upon our return. I must state however that I have had pleasant experiences with the American Tourists visiting Canada. I also had the pleasure to meet with some very nice Americans during my travels there. It seems that politeness and courtesy is contagious. No ****? According to folks like you, there can't be over a dozen or more decent Americans. You must have met them all in one sitting. But rest assured... I'd prefer a trip to the USA than any Muslim Country right now! Right now, yes, because you'd be taken for an American. My last trip to Jordan/Saudi Arabia/Egypt was between Desert Storm ('91) and the current Iraq war. The Arabs we dealt with were friendly, courteous, congenial, and very interested in life in America. I saw a professor, an Arab with one of the universities in Germany--don't recall which at the moment--talking on CNN not long ago. He said that nearly every country on the planet has traditionally had people who look up to Americans (oh, I suppose that might include you guys, too) and wish to learn more about them, emulate them in some ways (dress, music, culture). Recently, however, with the preponderance of anti-US sentiment throughout the world media, many of those same people, who've envied Americans, now have an excuse to dislike them. He likened it to Michael Jackson--many people were jealous of his wealth, fame, talent. But when he became tarnished, they jumped on the bandwagon of those who hated him. Jealousy is always a great motivator. Max This rant is soooo American. You're right, we all love you. |

This isn't my "opinion," these are the facts. For opinions, you can find numerous people who say that the bendy is hard to sail to its potential, and requires high skills of both helm and crew. You're the one who claimed the rating is actually too low and "average" skippers have trouble winning because of that. Here are some "facts" for you, Jeff. Do with them as you wish. The Catalina has less sail area than the 35s5 and displaces 2000 lbs more. The 1st series hull has less wetted surface as well. I have a nice Catalina 34 here that I've sailed plenty of times and I sailed Catalina 36's on a few occasions. Catalina 36 SA/D is 16.99. They are not terrible in light air...maybe a bit worse than my Pearson 30 was. Unlike you I've sailed the boats being discussed. It was a light air sail on the 35s5 near Oyster Bay that sealed the deal. Keep in mind that we also sailed the J34c, which we found comparable in light air...and rated the same. If you think a Catalina 36 can outrun a 35s5 or J34c there's simply no hope for you, dude. Hey, but if warms your heart any, the Catalina backs up better! More of your typical BS, BS. You're claiming the bendy is "just as fast" as a J34c. The fact is that J34c rates about 111. I don't have the Americap adjustment, but it probably isn't very large one way or another. Meanwhile, the Bendy's rating, adjusted for light air, is well over 150. So Bob is claiming that his new dog is "just as fast" is a boat the rates more the 40 seconds faster per mile. You're soft as puppy ****, bubbles! Then he spouts number to show how much he knows, but all he did was show that the Cat 36 has a higher SA/Disp then his bendy! (He hasn't figured out the the numbers sometimes given for the bendy are wrong!) You can crunch numbers until you turn blue, read comments and race committee evaluations. None of that effects the truth of the matter as indicated by owners Oh - the owners ... they're always the ones with the most unbiased opinions. Except maybe the salesmen. and someone who's actually SAILED the boats...which I have posted warts and all. And obviously we should believe a pathological liar who insists that a boat is just as fast as one that rates 40 seconds faster. |

If you really want to emulate them, you should always ask foreigners, "Say, (fill in the blank: Froggie, Raghead, Krautman, Wop boy, etc.), why in hell ain't you never larned tuh speak English, huh?" No no no Max...... it's "why the hell ain't you never larned to speak American".... nobody from the USA refers to the language as "english"!! ;-) CM Of course they don't. It isn't english. |

"Maxprop" wrote in message LOL. We were flying our tiny Canadian courtesy flag from the spreader halyard in the North Channel this summer, and when we docked at a tiny marina/town a shopkeeper in a general store asked if we'd care to buy a bigger flag to fly from the roach of the main as if we were Canadian. I asked why and she said, "I was just kidding, but you'd best duck if you hear shots." I laughed and thanked her for the "warning." Every Canadian boat we encountered had friendly folks, and we never heard any anti-US types anywhere. I've always noticed a predisposition of Americans to be rather protective of Canadians when they are in the USA. Like the City Slicker looking after his Cousin from the country. I remember once when my wife and I were walking to see a movie in San Diego. We were approached by this rather large and burly black man and asked what we were doing here. I of course fell into my best Canadian form and introduced ourselves, asked his name and could he help us with directions to the movie theatre.. Eh!?. He laughed and then asked us if we had noticed anything strange? I replied no not really. He asked if we noticed everyone on the street was either Black or Hispanic. I said now that you mention it yes.. but that everyone seemed friendly and it was a pleasure to visit his town. We talked for a few minutes about Canada and our travels. Then he called over a few of his friends.... directed them to escort us to the movies. I was surprised to see our new friends waiting outside after the show to escort us back to the area were there were more white people and cops. We had a great time and talked all along they way there. Real Nice folks! There is really no anti US sentiment in Canada that I've seen or heard... anti Bush - Shure! Lots! CM |
Thank You JEFF!!!

How about, "Hang a left where Joe's barn used to be."? that's a good one too. When I was a teen, at work, they sent me out to pick up some parts. The old timer truck driver was giving me directions, when he got to ''go a few blocks till you see an old woman with a German Shepherd dog on the corner, turn right there''. The shop guys busted out laughing and ribbing him. He winked and said, you'll see , Scotty. I left, cause I didn't care if I got lost as I was on the clock anyway. Sure as ****, she was there with the dog and I found the place no problem. SBV |
