You'd have to, to live in Canada. Don't fret, Mooron--if you don't tell
anyone you're Canadian, they'll just think you're an American.

No sweat Buddy.... everytime I'm visiting another country and get
belligerently drunk & verbally abusive to the locals... I make certain
to use an American drawl and praise the American virtues. I'm doin' my
part to maintain your global reputation! :-)

At least it sounds as if you're doing your part to maintain the reputation
of Texas/Oklahoma area. If you really want to emulate them, you should
always ask foreigners, "Say, (fill in the blank: Froggie, Raghead,
Krautman, Wop boy, etc.), why in hell ain't you never larned tuh speak
English, huh?"

LOL. We were flying our tiny Canadian courtesy flag from the spreader
halyard in the North Channel this summer, and when we docked at a tiny
marina/town a shopkeeper in a general store asked if we'd care to buy a
bigger flag to fly from the roach of the main as if we were Canadian. I
asked why and she said, "I was just kidding, but you'd best duck if you
hear shots." I laughed and thanked her for the "warning." Every Canadian
boat we encountered had friendly folks, and we never heard any anti-US
types anywhere.

I've always noticed a predisposition of Americans to be rather protective of
Canadians when they are in the USA. Like the City Slicker looking after his
Cousin from the country.
I remember once when my wife and I were walking to see a movie in San Diego.
We were approached by this rather large and burly black man and asked what
we were doing here. I of course fell into my best Canadian form and
introduced ourselves, asked his name and could he help us with directions to
the movie theatre.. Eh!?.

He laughed and then asked us if we had noticed anything strange? I replied
no not really. He asked if we noticed everyone on the street was either
Black or Hispanic. I said now that you mention it yes.. but that everyone
seemed friendly and it was a pleasure to visit his town. We talked for a few
minutes about Canada and our travels. Then he called over a few of his
friends.... directed them to escort us to the movies. I was surprised to see
our new friends waiting outside after the show to escort us back to the area
were there were more white people and cops. We had a great time and talked
all along they way there. Real Nice folks!

There is really no anti US sentiment in Canada that I've seen or heard...
anti Bush - Shure! Lots!

I luv that accent where they don't "ponounce they ahs' Boston? NY?. The
southern drawl with the "Ya'll" is easy to listen to as well.

The quintessential Am-Can greeting should be ..
"How Ya'll doin'... Eh?!"

that's a good one too. When I was a teen, at work, they sent me
out to pick up some parts. The old timer truck driver was giving
me directions, when he got to ''go a few blocks till you see an
old woman with a German Shepherd dog on the corner, turn right
there''. The shop guys busted out laughing and ribbing him. He
winked and said, you'll see , Scotty. I left, cause I didn't care
if I got lost as I was on the clock anyway. Sure as ****, she
was there with the dog and I found the place no problem.
