Yeah it's not to bright to surf next to a rockey shore. Im sure his
mast was tore off due to a shallow hard bottom. Yachtsea with dice on the side was fitting, he rolled the dice on that one an has a major bad day. He was lucky not to have pitch poled. If your going to surf you better have a boat that can plane with a fast to rise bow, or you better have a full heavy keel. Joe |

You'd be wrong. It's plenty deep. It was the breaking waves.

Where exactly is it?
Id like to look at a chart, Seems after it rolled it was right up on the rocks. You saying the bottom is more a canyon than a hill? Joe |

He didn't hit bottom. It's 20+ feet there. It was the roll.
Turns out someone I know knows this guy, and I'm trying to find out. Obviously, he made had a big lapse in judgement. I just can't imagine why. It's pretty obvious when there are breaking waves. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "DSK" wrote in message . .. Maybe he thought he could get a boost by surfing those waves. Maybe there was a really beautiful woman on shore he wanted to get a closer look at. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

I think it might have been an attempt to surf, which is fine, except that
you don't do that if the waves are breaking. Usually, if you see surfers there, it's not the right time. I'm trying to get more info. -- "j" ganz @@ www.sailnow.com "DSK" wrote in message . .. If it's only 20+ feet then the mast struck bottom. Duh if you said it
was 30+ feet then maybe the mast did not strike bottom. Anyone that surfs a sailboat knows to hand hold the main sheet so you can let go if you roll, reducing the load on the mast. amatures! Joe |
