Yes, but now what kind of people have these cheering crowds elected? Secularists committed to freedom? NO! They came in a distant third! They elected radical Shiite Muslims with strong ties to Iran - men dedicated to an "Islamic democracy" just like Irans wherein the elected officials serve the ayatollahs and mullahs. They wouldn't know freedom if it hit the in the ass. Only time will tell, but I hope you are wrong. Everything I have read about Sistani, states that he would prefer a secular, inclusive form of government. Granted, it could be BS, but he is Iraq's only hope. For those that disregard the original reasons for the invasion of Iraq, WMD's and Iraq's threat to America, and are willing to accept this mutated causa belli, I would point out we have now shed as much American blood bringing, a yet to be seen, democracy to Iraq, as we had in our own Revolutionary War. With somewhere over 100 nations still needing democracy, I suggest they sign up the sons and daughters today. |
