The operative term is 'Computer Aided'. The 'D' properly stands for 'Drafting'. CAD is an electronic drawing board - it doesn't contain 'design' tools, it contains 'drafting' tools. Capt. AutoCad will do a large number of design calculations including area, volume, centers of mass, and moments of inertia. Good drafting is about expressing or describing those solutions with sufficent competence for them to be implemented. Well stated. There are plenty of good designs that are badly drawn - because there are good designers that can't drive CAD (or draw) to save themselves. And are either too arrogant or too poor to hire a good draftsman. Regards Doug King |
