Sad isn't it, over 17,000 people who blew their brains out

because
they were depressed and a gun was al too handy.

Sad indeed, it would have been much better if they had used a

knife,
or a rope, or overdosed on drugs, or sucked a car tailpipe, or,

well,
anything but a gun.

Scotty

Yep, at least with a knife, rope, drug,or exhaust, you have the
opportunity to change you mind and call for help.

You can change your mind while swinging from a rope, but it won't

help
any.

SV

Most people who hang themselves don't die from a broken neck.
Mainly they asprixiate after passing out from reduced blood flow to
the brain....it's only after they pass out that they relax enough to
strangle.

So explain how they can then change their mind, and do something about
it.

Then there are the others who never in fact dangle, but tie a rope
around something, pass a noose over their head and just sit down.

And some tie a rock around their neck and throw into deep water.
Wonder if the change their mind on the way down?

How about bridge jumpers? Bet they change their mind about 1/2 way
down. Too late! Splat!

In Massachusetts, we have the toughest gun laws in the country. We also
have the lowest gun death rate (by a large margin) in the country. We
also have one of the lowest suicide rates in the country, about 60% of
the national average.

Anyways, they'll just try again.

Pathetic Earthlings! No one can save you now!

There ya go, you made my point.
With cars, pills you do get a chance to call for help.

You can call for help after you die from car exhaust? I didn't

know

that.

Scotty

Nope, but you sure as hell can before the gas gets you.

Scooter, back when, I attended a whole bunch of suicides, in plenty

of

them there were signs that the person had changed their mind and
unsuccessfully tried to call for help.
You know, things like, the phone knocked over, signs that they'd

tried

to crawl to the door, etc, and many others where they had managed to
call, but help arrived too late.

Never seen that in a gunshot suicide.

Remember the discusion about car thieves?

And as far as my grammer skills I will try to do better. Thats one of
the main reason I'm here. I'm so thankful for you and the other grammer
and spelling nazis to show me the error of my ways.

No problem Joe, you're coming along rather well, you're skills already surpass those of JW.

Cheers

Sure you do. You're sitting in your garage with with the car running,
and you're out of breath. Call for help. Try it, and tell us what
happens.

Really? So people meeting you face to face decide to kill themselves?
That says a lot about you.

Ummm your webpage above shows a rate something over 6/100,000 so

No, it adds up to under 12,000 - most 'victims' of the WOD.

This might help
http://tinyurl.com/3r8wv

It really is a shock to the system eh.

Sure is. I had no idea there were that many suicides and justifiable
homocides. 30,000! wow!

Of course we have to put that in perspective by remembering that medical
"misadventures" (doctors don't make mistakes, they have misadventures) kill
over 100,000/yr.

Scott Vernon January 25th 05 02:51 PM

Jeff, what's your point?
