It is my duty to earn a salary. It is my wife's duty to look after the house. Wow, it's so well delineated. Around here, we both provide and both look after the house....the cleaning lady just takes the load off. I provide.... and I don't waste our money on expensive cars!!! It would be silly to waste money on expensive cars. If you appreciate them, get enjoyment and relaxation out of them, then they aren't a waste. Some consider the huge cost of owning a yacht a waste..of course they have no understanding of the true value. It sounds like your wife is the real breadwinner in your house. My wife is luckier than your's. Really? What gave you that impression? Donal, you're wife may indeed be luckier than mine, who never wins raffles, but I'll guarantee she doesn't enjoy life as much with all that cooking and cleaning that she owes you for providing so well for her. My wife isn't a dancer. She's a mother and a wife. I've managed to give her the life that she wanted.... and she has given me the life that I wanted. My wife isn't a dancer now either..though she still dances to keep fit and flexible She's also a mother and a wife, and a very busy businesswoman. We've managed to give ourselves the life that 'we' want. You appear to have a very 18th century view of family, Donal. It's no shame to have a career woman for a wife these days, I didn't say that you should be ashamed if your wife needs to work. In fact. I wouldn't be ashamed if my wife had to work. In fact, a very good friend of mine is a househusband doing all the work that you in your 18th century life would have your wife do. She had the opportunity to earn a far better income than he, in a job she loved and it would have been a very negative step to have her give that up to her 'duty' as a wife. My goodness, I think I felt you shudder all the way over here! Were you describing a "good friend", or were you telling us about your own circumstances? Regards Donal -- |
