Why would you eed a watermaker if you didn't need to warrant an extented
range? If you are talking about a watermaker to replace tankage you have
to be considering a 'maker wth a power supply,
correct?

I don't need a watermaker, Thom. It will be removed and sold/traded.

RB

Bobsprit November 13th 04 02:23 AM

It is not a replacement for cellular service..... not yet.

The boat has nearly 4K worth of recent sat phone gear installed. I can get
service very cheaply through the company I freelance for. What's the problem,
Mooron? A tiny amount of cash in exchange for another level of comunnication is
a bad thing?

RB

Thom Stewart November 13th 04 04:09 AM

People still sail without power,,,,,,,,........
Yes they do. I never stated otherwise. They do it over great distances
but that doesn't mean here isn't a limit on their range. You, my friend
and your Pooka friend contend they have unlimited range. I disagree and
stated why.

It was you and your Pooka that have added other range limiters. Showers
and watermakers do reduce that range or change the sail boat to an Aux.

Ole Thom

Thom Stewart November 13th 04 04:23 AM

That doesn't make your statement correct.
Sailboat do have a limited range. It is a very good range but it does
have a limit, is people (crew) is involved.

The only sailboats that don't are the "Ghost Ships" That may be what
your Pooka means:^) He probably talk it over with "Harvey" Do you
suppose that is where the unlimited range came from?

I guess that you don't consider circumnavigation of Earth "unlimited range"? So
where are you talking about? Sailing in outerspace?

BB

While the boat may have unlimited range asin circumnavigation, most, if
not all crews don't have unlimited range and must stop for food and
water. Unless you intend to survive on fish and rain water only.

Bobsprit November 13th 04 05:17 PM

Hey Pooka Bill,

Around the Globe non-stop is not unheard of but that was done with crew
and special provisions to extend the range

Pooka, Every boat anchored in the Harbor or/and on the hard have the
same range. That goes for sail or Power. It's range is set as soon as
crew is added that limits come into play.

Now, if you want to give us a news flash tell us about an "Around the
Globe" with a crewless sailboat. One sail set only. No course changes.
The Port of Departure the same as the Port of Entry, after a Globe
circling passage. Then I'll say with you: "Folks, you heard it hear
BAAAAHAAAAA!" Don't give me your dumb opinion and act like its FACT!

Pooka, why don't you get together with "Harvey" and have a drink? It is
senseless to have a discussion with a "FRIG----ment" of imagination.
This is the only time it is going to happen with me involved

Ole Thom

Thom Stewart November 13th 04 07:06 PM

Nutsy,

Hook that shower up to a fresh water tank and you got a pretty good size
soda bottle.

A vessel at sea is a "Derelict" without a crew, be it Sail or POWER.
The range of said vessel is unknown (Could be unlimited) but without
crew I'd dought it.

Give it up Nutsy, You're in a hole of your own making. Digging more only
makes it deeper!

Thom, your simply a victim in this one. A sailboat has unlimited range and it
sure isn't effected by a shower!

RB

Right, a sailboat has unlimited range. Provisions are a given. No one here said
that a sailboat had unlimited range WITHOUT provisions. You merely introduced
that item when you got caught with your pants down...again!

RB

Bobsprit November 13th 04 08:34 PM

Pooka, Every boat anchored in the Harbor or/and on the hard have the

Wrong, wrong, wrong. You simply can't get a 25 foot powerboat long distances
without stopping. It's need for fuel is a huge problem. The sailboat doesn't
need fuel and it can make water. Plenty of 25 sailboats have crossed oceans and
circumnavigated. How many 25 foot powerboats?
I'll help you out. The smallest powerboat to circumnavagate is a 40 foot
Nordhavn.
And so ends Thom's desperate chance of making any valid points!

RB

SAIL LOCO November 13th 04 10:45 PM

Forget the Boob's stupid original post. Forget water tanks, watermakers and
provisions. Just like fuel and a motor is to a power boat sails eventually
disintegrate after prolonged exposure to UV rays. Therefore even with a crew
who didn't require food or water any sailboat would eventually loose her sails
and come to a stop. Once again the Boob is proven wrong. He knows nothing
about boats.

GOOD GRIEF!!!!

That hardly rates as "unlimited".... unless of course, as in your
case..... the furthest reaches of your explored space only encompasses the
limits of the inner harbour.

Face it Bob.... a sailboat does not have "unlimited" range. Extended
yes..... unlimited NO!

See there you go..... I'm not on the fence regarding this issue. :-D

Jesus Loco, just how far will you go to try and prove you're right?
You've already gone past the point of idiocy!

Fact is, sailboats aren't limited to a range as it's cnventionally
read.

Exactly, Ozzy. Poor Loco is forced to abandon the context and make himself an
idiot again.
The discussion began with Joe claiming more range for his boat than Doug...for
motoring! But Joe's boat carries a rig and can sail (to some degree), so Doug
loses the contest by a few circumnavigations at least.
Sailboats have no range limit. It's what makes a sailboat such a romantic
notion compared to the powerboat.
Loco has no understanding of such things nor does Thom.
