Ours if 5 gallons but since we mainly use it to do the dishes and very rarely use it for showers, that's all we need. If you're not actively cruising where there aren't showers, why bother? Doesn't your marina have showers? Yes the marina has showers but its a long walk. Its nice to have a long hot shower and not run out of hot water. We live aboard so we use hot water all the time. Why? These "instant" heaters are much more energy efficient.
Joe wrote: I've looked at them but I hear they take lots of power to work. Who'd you hear that from, Dick Cheney? They are more efficient than tank type water heaters. Lots of boats have propane instant water heaters, they work just fine. Take up less space, less weight (not that this is an issue for you), less likely to corrode through. The downside is that they can't be plumbed to take advantage of engine heat the way most tank heaters are, and they need to be well vented and need an exhaust outlet. Fresh Breezes- Doug King |

We have a ten gallon water heater but seldom use it here in Mexico.
Typically we shower on deck with the solar shower when at anchor and use the shore showers when in port. I especially don't wash my hair down below because it's grown pretty long and mucks up the drain. Barb S/V Arabella (Joe) wrote: How large do you think your water heater should be?
