Real Boat Question
Anyone here familiar with the C&C 37 and C&C 40 from the mid 80s. They are both on the C&C hit list as boats that scored. I see the prices are quite close. Anyone sail either and have some feedback. I already spoke to owners...looking for additional info. RB |

Very solidly built. Took being trashed by the local charterers pretty well. They were quite stiff and seakindly. -- Jonathan Ganz (j gan z @ $ail no w.c=o=m) http://www.sailnow.com "If there's no wind, row." |
I thought you already had a locked up deal on a 34+? Did that one fall through?
It sounded pretty good. The deal on the 34+ is still pending, but the owner is now thinking he wants to hold on to her for two more seasons. I'll wait one more season with Alien, but after that we want a bigger boat. The 37 and 40 seem like good fun boats that will do well for us. The 40 may be a bit too much boat while the 37 seems like a more comfortable faster version of the 32. We're just lining up the options for now, but Alien will be sold next summer for sure. I'm open to suggestions, but the boat must have bunks for my height. RB |
They're both notorious for the C&C "smile"....their keels separate from the
hull.....but they are fast and sail well.... "Jonathan Ganz" wrote in message ... In article , Bobsprit wrote: Anyone here familiar with the C&C 37 and C&C 40 from the mid 80s. Hey Nutsy,
Weren't you supposed to be taking possession of a larger C&C this Fall? I thought that deal was signed and sealed? What happened to the Two boat ownership you were spouting off about? Tell me a story,-tell me the story? Ole Thom |
Well, I've sailed a bunch of C&Cs of that era... all different sizes
and I've never see that happen or heard of it. I suppose it's possible. wrote It's quite common, but usually just cosmetic. It's not limited to just C&C's either. Catalina owners, for one example, call it the Catalina Smile. Seidelmanns don't have that problem. Scotty |
ownership you were spouting off about?
Thom, I already ate crow with this info. Our new boat will probably send Scotty and Loco off a roof together, arm n' arm! Alien is better boat anyway, but this vessel will just drive them NUTS! I can't wait! For BB Current choices: C&C 35 mid 80's, C&C 40 and 37 mid 80's. We've checked out the 40 as well as the aft cabin version (hard to find), but the 35 as bunks near 7 feet and the 37 may be a solid choice down the middle. I see all have really good performance and many have been nicely refurbished. The 34/36+ is still in the works, but I don't think we want to be on the 32 for two more seasons. RB |
"Bobsprit" wrote but I don't think we want to be on the 32 for two more seasons. That's a shame. I really like *my* boat. Scotty |
"Bobsprit" wrote in message ... either. Catalina owners, for one example, call it the Catalina Smile. Seidelmanns don't have that problem. They also don't have some blister problems experienced by Valiants and early 80's Bristols Yes, another good point for Seidelmann. Scotty |

That's a shame. I really like *my* boat. Read: "Scotty Potti's stuck with the POS!" We're a sailing family with a new member. Bigger boats are coming! Sorry Scotty Potti! RB |
Actually, as of December 15th, we will have closed the deal via a
contract, pending a final payment. She'll be dry through that time. The only bad part is we'll pay storage on the second boat, but can't use her. We won't take the boat until 2005 of course, but that's when Suzanne is done with school. The only change is that we were supposed to wait an extra year before going bigger, but the deal is just too good, just like the 32. RB "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... "Bobsprit" wrote Ahhhh yes! By contract, the 34XL is now mine. Still, she'll be registered in my father's name! RB |
Does this mean the Baltic's out, too?
''That's a good question! I guess it's for the money and independence. My Baltic will follow the 34XL for certain.'' Either way, you're going to show yourself for the big fat losing liar

Yep...I'll sure be "hanging" aboard my new boat!!!! Dance Scotty Potti! Bwahahahaha! RB |

Nutsy,
Not what you said a year ago. You said you were the ower of 2 boats and the storage fees was your obligation? Nutsy, ils been a bad week for you. hasn't it? You were busted on the wind speed by the guy you were all over, for a wind estimate a lot closer than yours You were busted on your stern line.parting. You were busted on your "Docking lines" even after you had pictures of your docking line with shackles on the cleat. and now, you've busted yourself about dual ownerships of sail boats Going to take an awful lot of HONESTY to get anyone to take you serious from now on I hang my head in shame;--- for you, my friend and for your newborn, my namesake. Ole Thom |
Not what you said a year ago. You said you were the ower of 2 boats and
the storage fees was your obligation? The owner wants out if I can't wait the xtra season. He's a friend and I'm not about to force him. Sorry, Thom. Meanwhile, we're still talking it over. Also: Thomas is changing things and an even larger boat, like the C&C 40 looks even more attractive. RB |
You were busted on your stern line.parting.
How so? RB |
You were busted on your "Docking lines" even after you had pictures of
your docking line with shackles on the cleat. Nope, you all got busted and I even offered a bet for anyone who doubted it. No one dared call me on that bet. Still want to bet, Thom? Say the word. RB |
What a sad jealous sad sack Scotty is!!! But he's "happy" with
his boat, I don't get it ?? Yup. True enough, except it aint! Bwahahahahaha! RB |
Having a line part in moderate weather is pretty embarrassing. I've only seen a
few lines go in less than hurricane conditions - its was always a case of extreme neglect. You weren't even able to give an explanation! "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... You were busted on your stern line.parting. How so? RB |
You weren't even able to give an explanation!
Sure I did. You just weren't listening. 1) There were strong winds that night 2) I added a safety line. Care to explain how I neglected the vessel when I backed up the line and prevented any damage? Hmmmm???? Really, Jeff!!!! RB |
Perhaps I should rephrase that. Having a line part in moderate weather is a
sign of total incompetence. "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... Having a line part in moderate weather is pretty embarrassing. Only YOU would be embarassed by a line breaking. you need help! RB |
"Bobsprit" wrote in message ... You weren't even able to give an explanation! Sure I did. You just weren't listening. 1) There were strong winds that night First you said gusting to 40. Then you said gusting to 35. A nearby station report a gust only to 24. In any case, this is not enough wind to part a proper line, properly setup. 2) I added a safety line. Care to explain how I neglected the vessel when I backed up the line and prevented any damage? Hmmmm???? Care to explain how a line parted after you doubled up??? It sure sounds like you don't know how to setup docklines. Really, Bob!!! |
Perhaps I should rephrase that. Having a line part in moderate weather is a
sign of total incompetence. You have no idea what the sea state was, Jeff. And THAT is a sign of total idiocy. NOAA reported 35kn+ that night. And STILL I backed up all of my lines to prevent a problem. NO DAMAGE. Sorry, Jeff....you're still losing! RB |
In any case, this is not enough wind to part a proper
line, properly setup. The line was setup correctly, showed no chafe and appeared fine. But lines can NEVER part unexpectedly. NEVER, NEVER, so says Jeff!!!! Hahahahahaha! RB |
"Bobsprit" wrote in message ... You weren't even able to give an explanation! Sure I did. You just weren't listening. 1) There were strong winds that night (10-15kts) 2) I added a 2nd clothes line. |

Nutsy,
Shut the hell up!! You're making an Ass of yourself even more, with your half ass defensive statements. You said your line parted at the snubber. First BS. Any sailor that has ever seen a line go knows that the strongest section of the line is the middle. Any sailor who ever tied a knot or made a splice knows that created a weakness; at that point!!! Wear doesn't happen in the middle of the run, it happens at the ends. This is the location of the weaker part of the line and where the wear takes place. This is where a line brakes. Think like a sailor once in awhile and not a Troller. Also; A Lie is not a troll, it is still a Lie when it is proven a lie. It is no longer a troll. Check out Gilly's trols He knows how to troll. Ole Thom |
Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to
deceive......... Oh what a idiot Scotty Potti remains when I troll his puny brains! Bwahahahaha! RB |
