Scot,
That trip of Nutsy to "No Where" was another LIE!! He still has yet to spend a night of shore, out of sight of land. He should be an expert on docking lines but he isn't. Jeff, Nutsy's ally is about to take a trip off shore (so he says) Be ready for that problem of Gulf Stream drift while heading South (G) He is heading (so he claims) to the BVI and hasn't learned yet how the avoid the north flowing GS Ole Thom |
Wonder if he'll post a pic of the mystery line?
SV "Thom Stewart" wrote in message ... Can't make the LIE go down, can you Nutsy? Sorry Nutsy, you're so busy defending you obvious LIE with other dumb statements and lies that you forgot the obivious LIE about other failures. Shut The Hell Up!!! Ole Thom |
Nutsy,
I'm saying you're stern line never busted in your slip!!! You LIED!!! Enough said; Check and your move. Ole Thom |
In this thread? Let's see - you had a line part inexplicably; you claim you've
seen it happen a number of times; you claimed the wind gusted to over 40, than over 35, but the most that was reported in your area was 25. It sure seems like your posts are one inexplicable thing after another. "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... I don't think its for me to explain why so many "inexplicable" things happen to you, booby. So many? Golly, I hope you're not lying again. Let's see you list these inexplicable things... RB |

... to reduce stress by doubling lines i think you would need to make sure they are working completely together. Of course, exactly doubling a line means feeding through the same chocks and to the same cleats. I'm not sure that actually doubles the securty. I prefer to add lines to different points that handle the same force but in a slightly different way. For example, an after bow spring prevents the boat from moving forward. Adding an after midship spring does the same thing, but uses different cleats. otherwise if it is just twice as many lines.----one will work while the other is slack. if one goes south, then the other takes the load. The lines that take the force from a given direction should all be tensioned equally. i have yet to figure out how to do this any ideas? admitting ignorance here. Unfortunately, each situation is different. But a few guidelines: Use nylon. Use the highest quality lines. Don't "oversize," that just reduces stretch. Have the lines led as far as possible. Avoid short breast lines for small boats. Double up with alternate attachment points. Allow the boat to move up and down with the waves, but avoid the shock loads of moving fore and aft. And, as my mentor always said, "Remember, Chafe is the Invisible Enemy!" |

One thing that I do is to keep my spring lines taut to my midship cleats and allow my bow and stern lines to be relatively slack. The boat seems to be able to ride out almost any conditions in the slip with a minimum of jerking and hobby horsing. |
Sorry Nutsy, you're so busy defending you obvious LIE
I love Thom's logic. Everyone knows it's a LIE and yet everyone is trying so hard to point out and argue the specifics of the LIE. Fine, my line didn't break. But the actual sailing dialogue generated is better than talk about the stupid Kerry/Bush threads. Thom, you should be thanking me...again. RB |
I'm saying you're stern line never busted in your slip!!! You LIED!!!
Enough said; Check and your move. Thom, my boat wasn't even in the water. I had her hauled so new thru-hulls could be installed. I got some new electronics after the robbery. She went back in this morning. I'll be posting pics of the new stuff when it's all set up properly. Happy now? RB |

Two days! Two whole days? at sea?......in a 32'er.......damn bob, you
da man! Then why did you call it a "long trip?" I know it's just two daysails sewn together, but you called it "long." RB |
Do you have an EPIRB, a life raft and a well stocked ditch kit?
How much ice will you need to last two whole days? Sure I have an EPIRB. No liferaft. We don't need ice. Alien has a fridge and can make ice. RB |

Shouldn't you be getting ready for your 'big trip'? Please explain how a two day trip with only a small portion done at night qualifies as a "big trip?" RB |
GF,
Equal tension isn't really that hard. When setting the lines, move the boat to release the tension. All lines should go slack together. When restoring tension all slack should be taken up together. Now, this doesn't mean they are set properly. Wind and tide will vary the direction of the load and adjustments may have to be made to compensate. That is why lines are use, because of their ability to stretch and equilize the load Ole Thom |

clear answer
thanks thom truth is in 6 years i've owned my boat i rarely have tied up at a dock for any length of time ususally once at the begining of the season somewhere in the middle , and if i'm landing in another port. boat stays on a mooring or an anchor vast majority of the time. thanks to all those that answered. gf. Right boobie. You prove yourself to be incompetent and your defense is that
you were lying. And you're calling me a fool??? "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... It sure seems like your posts are one inexplicable thing after another. Oh, now it "seems" that way. Why is that? Every trip he's talked about has been on other people's boats, not
his. Every trip he's made has been with full electronics, and he's still been lost, and had to call the Coast Guard. In his "Gulf Stream" episode he still hasn't been able to identify where they were and which buoy he was looking for. He was probably hanging over the rail or cleaning his pants. When I started doing offshore trips it was in wooden boats with no gps, loran, radar, of even vhf. The Ray Jeff RDF was considered hi tech. Jaxie likes to rag me because the last few years I've been doing family sailing, and staying closer to shore. Jaxie had a family once, but his wife left him because she was terrified to sail with him. or so he claims. A clearly, if you think the lines part spontaneously, for no reason at all, then you're a complete putz! "Bobsprit" wrote in message ... I guess it really hurts bad when you get trounced, eh jaxie? Jeff, I'm sorry to say that Jax really does take offshore trips. Since he's also alive and not the subject of any lost at sea movies it's a fair assumption that he knows more than you. Based on you idiotic comments about lines and breaking limits I'm certain of it! RB |
And you're calling me a fool???
Jeff, did you not see the pic of my boat on the hard? Yes, you are a fool. RB |

Our new boat will probably send Scotty and Loco off a roof together, arm
n' arm!. You really do live in your own little world. I worry more about if I'm going to get dog crap in my lawn tractor tires that what your next boat will be. No matter what your boating platform is you will still go home to your undersized but overpriced N.Y. POS walkup apartment. No matter what your boating platform is you will still go home to your
undersized but overpriced N.Y. POS walkup apartment. There is an elevator. There's also two bedrooms, two baths, full kitchen, dining room and living room. When we sell it will go for three times what your "house" is worth. It takes 15 minutes on average to get to the boat which also is worth more than your unkown tub!!! RB |
