![]() I'm left sorely disappointed in your judgment on this matter and it's more than obvious we shall remain miles apart on this topic. I'll tell you why I feel as I do...I deal with people in these situations every day...I'm glad the guy has learned something before it was too late...we have had people come through ours doors that were nigh unto death from unconscious neglect because people just aren't aware....we have had family members who have had their parents literally taken away by the court system because they tried to do it at home and ended up making their parent a drug addict because they couldn't handle the situation. Want to know what the leading problem is with home care for the elderly? Family abuse. People don't mean to retaliate...they just don't have the eloping mechanisms to be able to handle the stress of dementia and Alzheimer's and they don't know where or when to go for help. Or they are too proud to go for help because after all, they can handle it. I sit on the other end of the picture. I've seen the wife who, angered by the fact that her husband is no longer who he used to be, tried to slowly poison him to death. We've had the families that believe it is better to let a diabetic member drink themselves to death at home then to try to wean them from alcohol and possibly save a portion of what's left of their lives. We actually have people who sneak in medications they think their parents should have, administer them secretly, and then when the medications react with what the doctor's prescribe, all hell breaks loose...we had one guy who would wheel his wife off the property to give her narcotics...we caught him and he now no longer has any type of visiting privileges without another family member and a staff member present. You do not see the whole picture. You are seeing only one little part of the picture. When you see the abuse that goes on, just as bad as child abuse, then maybe you too would change your tune. -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A.
