FWIW: I've been hearing some rumblings about problems in Athens, ie--hotels not finished (no water or electricity), some Olympic venues not finished, and some athlete residence facilities not finished. The word is that some of these facilities may not be finished in time, and that the IOC was asking Sydney if they could be a sudden bailout if Athens falls through. Have you heard any of this? Or is this just BS? Max |

![]() OzOne wrote in message Just received an email from the guys who have my boats in charter. They are doing a booming business with the Olympics coming up and are charging premium rates on the boats which are doing little sailing and being used as floating hotel rooms. The sailing venue is just near the marina where the boats are kept and and right next to the main Olympic venue on the old airport site. They'll be used to take up to 15 spectators out at a time with 10 sleeping overnight onboard each boat. You can actuallu see one ofr the boats in this shot Sounds similar to the charter boats in the BVI for the millennium celebration in Dec. '99. Some charter companies were charging as much as $30K per week (US) for the boats, and all of them were rented. We heard one story of a 44' Beneteau with 20 people on board, sleeping anywhere they could. Not a pretty picture, but lucrative. Max |

yeah i have ( the unfinished part...don't know about the bailing out)
a former student is working for the engineer/architect santiago calatrava, responsible for the major stadium.-----the roof is only now being started a lot of work just to do this, as it is a complex structure. in any normal venue, i'd say all bets off for the olympics? who knows, there is a lot at stake. gf. That's pretty much all crap.
The venues are virtually complete though the swimming centre will probably not get a roof. well it might be just responding to your post with what i know or knew 3 weeks ago if that much has changed, i'm impressed. snip Knowing the Greeks..they probably won't ever finish after the games start...in 3 weeks! agreed but the restaurants in astoria will still be great gf |

![]() OzOne wrote in message Biggest problem is that some of the infrastructure will not be complete..railway stations aren't complete so people will bypass them and get off at another to make their way to the venue of choice. What I was told centers mostly around hotels, some of which have no water or electricity at this point, and aren't expected to be completed by the Games. And these hotels have been booked for almost a year and a half. Interesting. Max |
