Default Safety Requirements ...

You always include them, since you always have one shoved up your
butt... at least that's how it seems to most everyone.

1. Rum
2. blender
3. More Rum
4. beer
5. ice
6. drinking glasses
7. vodka
8. more beer
9 little paper umbrellas

and almost forgot

10. whisker pole (just in case something falls overboard)

Excellent answer ... apart from No. 7.

I can't understand why you would need vodka on board.

Well, just because you're a dumbass, doesn't mean others are.

I'm glad I looked over the list again. I forgot to include the
swizzle sticks.

Where? Seriously, the shortness of the list would depend on where I was
sailing.

big seas!

Type 3 vest for myself & my wife, handheld GPS, rigging knife.

On the boat I'd check the rations & water first, then probably the bilge
pump, all sea cocks, fuel system including tank, ports & hatches,
steering & emergency steering, backing plates on mooring cleats, radio,
batteries & charger, ground tackle...

It'd take a pretty long list, actually. Roughly equivalent to a survey.

Good idea... make that all signalling devices, and firefighting
equipment... these are (or should be) survey items too

Usually the lifesling is stowed when we get on a charter boat, so we
have to mount it ourselves. But I also pay out and flake down the line,
checking it out too.

I also make sure the head works. That keep people happy and I can
enforce the no peeing over the side at night rule.

What do you do if they pee overboard? Hit them with your purse?
