I would have taken out the reef long ago.



Why? We were CRUISING, not racing. Also we were running w/the wind all
morning so the main wasn't 'doing much'.

dead air for a long time with a reefed main.

You mean when the wind falls of, sea state stays the same for a long while???
Never saw that! Wind dies, sea follows quite quickly.

Much as I loath to admit it....Horvath is wrong. Looks like a flukey day and I
don't doubt higher winds occured and returned. If you weren't there, a pic only
tells so much...and Horvath knows so little.
