no, I did time in the Marines.
Whereas my time was driving a ship in the Navy. "some of my best friends are squids". wouldn't want my daughter to marry one, of course, but squids are okay as long as they don't get uppity and forget their place. |

I always get a kick out of the different terminology used by the "military". I frequently have to stifle a serious outbreak of the giggles, when some Navy type comes up to me and tells me he/she is a "ship driver". Actually, I frequently find myself tailoring my terminology to accommodate the military (to a point) as I can understand their reasoning. ton |

In boot camp, everyone got a second physical to insure that all met minimum's. many ( 2 or 3 out of a hundred it seemed) didn't. I doubt joony showing up claiming his preference would have kept him from serving. They would just take care to assign to the right general. no, there is some reason I didn't serve besides my preference. Dave & Scott, Homo's were not drafted if they made it known. Ole Tom |

Sorry, never heard the term. Dave huh? How come you never heard the term? It has been around since Christ was a corporal in the infantry. In the US military, O-1 ranks wear a gold bar as a rank indicator, hence a "brown bar". |

dave, the term pre-dates double double duece.
btw, as I recall subs were never referred toas ships, but rather as boats. Yet I seem to remember you claimed to be ship driver. huh? How come you never heard the term? It has been around since Christ was a corporal in the infantry. In the US military, O-1 ranks wear a gold bar as a rank indicator, hence a "brown bar". Yes, I know well what bars each wears. But the term "brown bar" was never used within my hearing as best I can remember. Certainly not in the wardroom, though our CO was a mustang. Since we were part of the sub fleet, it might be that it's a term used mainly by the guys on the ground, which we just didn't have. At any rate I was an Ensign for the first part and a JG for the 2nd part of my tour. Dave S/V Good Fortune CS27 |
