Default Key west race?

Sailed a Mumm Loco?
They are super dependent on having perfect crew work and good tactics...

Well, I have half that. I have the perfect crew. It's my tactics that stink.

Tactics count for far less than most people think. In fact, unless you are racing
against a boat & crew that are almost perfectly matched, they count for nothing.
People give away minutes in a race by mediocre sail trim, poor tacks, failing to
go through waves correctly, aiming the boat in the wrong direction, missing wind
shifts, etc etc. Then they think, "Golly if only I had gotten 3/10 second better
start" or "Maybe we should have false-tacked old Charlie to break his cover."

Gary Hoyt once said "Give me 1/10 knot better boatspeed, and I'll have everyone
convinced I'm a tactical genius."

It's a RACE! Sail FAST, first and foremost. Aiming the boat in the right direction
counts for a lot, too.... that could be considered a tactic...

BTW the cool thing about the Mumm 30 IMHO is the acceleration. They stomp on the
gas harder than most beach cats. This calls for changing sail trim as the boat
accelerates. I bet this is part of what Oz1 is talking about. It's a fun boat but
I wouldn't expect to go against the rock stars for a couple years, and it would be
an expensive boat to campaign.

I was just looking forward to going to all the cool venues. Doesn't that make
you a rock star by default?

Good lord. Doug Kink the expert has obviously never forced a start penalty.

I know they do very well. I've been on the race course with them. Thankfully
they are in another class. They seem to get their picture in Spinsheet quite a
bit so I thought somebody was sleeping with the editor.
