What would the US have built without being given the design of the
supercharged merlin engine? What about radar? Makes one wonder... Cheers MC Donal wrote: "Thom Stewart" wrote in message ... Sure Donal, Peace in our time was said just after Adofl went into Austria and before England went to War. U.S. went to war 12/7/41 Now,Donal, Maybe you would like to give the group a list of the Battles that the Brits won in that time? The Battle of Britian comes to mind. If the British had lost, then the outcome of the American war with Japan could have turned out very differently. Your refernce was a Joke? At whose expense? The Californian electorate. Why do you assume that radar would not have existed without the Brits help? Its true that
significant improvements where made in England, especially to the cavity magnetron (itself an American invention), but this was a technology rapidly advancing in a number of sites. In the US, the Radiation Laboratory (or RadLab) at MIT was funded at the same level as the Manhattan Project, and surely would have duplicated most of the British work in a matter of months. Given the significance of the work, of course, that several months was rather important. "The_navigator©" wrote in message ... That's funny I though thge cavity magentron was invented by the British
and smuggled to the US in a sock. Come to think of it, the British seemed to like that ploy as they also used it to smuggle penicillin to the US as well! The Cavity Magnetron was invented by A W Hull and General Electric in 1921. A number of
others, including Germans, contributed enhancements over the years. The British version had greatly increased power and was the first practical for use in airplanes. It was certainly a major step forward, but not the "invention of radar" as many would have it. The discovery of penicillin was probably a more unique discovery. "The_navigator©" wrote in message ... Hey You Limiest and Kiwis.
This discussion started with The Gov. Elect of Calif. and the mentality of the Electorate that picked him, with a comparison to Adolf. My reply was to remind The comparers of their own mentality by reminding them of Peace in our time comment and all the help they accepted from the dumb Yanks. I also asked for a list of victories the Brit had over the Axis before "Pearl Harbor" I was given one Defensive Victory, when I was thinking offensive victories . I'm still waiting to be remind of ONE SINGLE offensive victory from the time England declared war on Germany and the time of Pearl Harbor (12/7/41) Know what? I'm still waiting. The British had the Merlin Engine during that time. They had radar during that time also (used very successfully in the DEFENSE of Britain) As I said I'm still waiting to hear about a battle that was started by the British against Germany that gained back any territory from the Axis powers before Dec, 7th, 1941. So, what I content, that before you give the Ha Ha to anyone else about their mentality it would do well to examine your own You failed with your Austrian with a name starting with an A. I'm reminding you that we had to take care of it FOR YOU. We'll take care of Arnie. We have the Smarts-----You DIDN'T AND "I'LL DRINK TO THAT!!" Your "A" pushed you out of Europe with his smarts. The Yanks SMART got you back. I do believe there is a real need for youse guys to WISE UP G Ole Thom |
