Experience here shows that if you can, leave the marina and go up a nice
muddy river and anchor well. If your anchors drag you just end up aground in a nice safe mud berth. If you have doubt as to the quality of the marina pilings and construction leave -lest your boat be hit by those breaking free. Just a thought -but please don't worry unduly. She just represents several years of hard work so remember to insure her to account for the 'improvments' you've made!!!! Scupper, several other singlehanders, MC............! & I ) plan on camping in the boatyard office. I'll move the Jeep to our office lot and park it under the 2ond. story. If it's bad, I can go to a friend's house on high ground with the critters and leave the Jeep at the library. If it's really bad I can load up the Jeep with the critters and head west! You have an inland hidey-hole? You can come here, but it's a bit far to check on the boat every day.... -- katysails s/v Chanteuse Kirie Elite 32 http://katysails.tripod.com "Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea." - Robert A. I've never been in a slip during a hurricane before. This is extremely disturbing. If your anchors drag you just end up aground in a nice safe mud berth. The Chesapeake is renowned for good holding. Eh Timmy? If you have doubt as to the quality of the marina pilings and construction leave -lest your boat be hit by those breaking free. Actually, some of these pilings went through Agnes....I kinda like how they flex. Big fatties... If the Swan, next to me, leaves I can run some long lines across a couple slips:^) Seahag Just a thought -but please don't worry unduly. ![]() "The_navigator©" wrote in message ... The 'dangerous quarter' only applies to vessels at sea? Wrong! The dangerous quarter is dangerous because it combines the forward speed of the 'cane with the speed of the winds. If the cane is progressing at 20 knots and the winds are blowing at 100 knots then the combined winds will be 120 knots. When the 'cane goes ashore so the NE quadrant strikes a boater in a bay where the seas and tide can be pushed right in and have nowhere to go then the storm surge can be very high indeed. So, don't tell me the dangerous quarter only affects boaters at sea, you putrid putz! S.Simon - knows 'canes almost as well as women. |
