I must admit that that idea has merit... I've had people come up and question me about it. They generally have a blue ensign, and are usually very suspicious. After talking to me, they tend to be even more suspicious. Anybody who sees a Jolly Roger, will know that it is a joke. Most people who see a "pilot jack" will be very confused. A different joke or statement, perhaps. I freely admit to being influenced by Treasure Island - I read it as a boy and I think the attraction to sailing was subliminally set back then. I also used to watch 'Daktari' on TV when I was kid and, when I grew up (a bit) and got a Landrover, it was painted with Daktari zebra stripes. It's only natural for my boat to be called 'Hispaniola' and fly a Jolly Roger. :-) Yeah, I can understand that. My boat is called "Setanta" for similiar reasons. Regards Donal -- |
