Default Sailing on LIS BORING! BORING!

BORING! BORING! I can think of nothing that is more boring than sailing on
Long Island Sound in the Summer time. This is truly a place for the neophyte.
Most of the time there is little if any wind and this protected estuary is
often referred to as the "DEAD sea." Even though most LIS boater have more
gadgets then a well equipped 41, all you really need is a compass and a depth
finder. Navigation consists of either heading easterly usually more or less
down wind with the motor running and the sails up, or westerly into a head wind
also with the motor running and the sails up. Of course all LIS sailors always
have their sails up regardless. North or South will always bring you close to
land so you can never get lost even at night or in fog, and there are so many
aids, and they are so close together that they almost ruin your night vision.

After the 1st of Octber and up until early spring the sound can get a piece of
wind and a bit of chop, but unless there is a significant low ( not likely in
the summertime) and then these wannabes can learn how to sail, otherwise they
are truly out of there elemement. Heck they don't even know what to do, except
run and hide, when they see a summer sqall coming, and if the wind pipes up
over 20K they all sit at the dock or go home.

Sailors they're not!
