My boat doesn't have any power at present, although I'll probably want to add that somewhere down the line. Since the marina has shore power, it would be good to have an idea of how things connect up. With such a small boat I wouldn't bother with this. Simply run an extension cord for what you need. Ghost (My pearson 30) had a heavy duty cord that ran right through a vent and that worked fine. Alien has a pretty complex power system for such a small boat, but the inverter was never installed. I don't think I'd go as far as onboard mains power, but I'd very much like to fit nav lights at least, so some sort of shoreside charging system would be good. I'd rather think ahead and install a 12V system that's capable of running some other kit further down the line (a depth sounder springs to mind, and maybe a fixed VHF). I guess it's natural to extrapolate and want to add an inverter to run the laptop (though not essential - I'm unlikely to buy into all that electronic chart stuff for the sailing I expect to do with this boat). -- Wally www.makearatherlonglinkthattakesyounowhere.com Things are always clearer in the cold, post-upload light. |
