Dear Over My Head,
This is a common problem for coastal sounders used in deep water. I suggest
you upgrade to a larger more powerful professional grade unit.

A Simrad EK60 with a 12KHz transducer would do it nicely. Somehow I
think there'd be a small problem fitting one to the average yacht.
