Well got the new main up and got the shock of my life. It has a free
foot. My fault, didn't specify a shelf. Holy mother of god. RB |

All the racers have loose footed mains, easier to take off also.

First time in fifty years have a free footed main. The battens are about 6" shorter than my UK Main but she sets nice. Just hoisted it at the slip. I had to pick the windiest day in weeks. The Old Man just plain ran out of gas. Did get it on and flaked on the boom before collapsing down below. Did just beat the worst of the wind Maybe I'll have a test sail this week-end and get some pictures Jon, my sailmaker is towing his Melges 24 down to the Bay Area for the "NOAK Regatta" and for practise for the WORLDS. If you see him give a Hail. His name is Chris. Has a crew of four. No name on the boat yet. I haven't met him face to face yet. Just telephone and withdrawal from my VISA account. Seem like a nice guy. Know nothing about his sailing |

You idiots with your racing mentality make me want to puke. Automobile racers use fuel cells instead of fuel tanks; does that mean you should have a fuel cell in your Toyota? Stop already with the idiotic thinking that racing crap has any place on a cruising boat. S.Simon |

Neal,
I wish you could have been here. You would have laughed your ass off. I had to make a special trip to pick up bronze wool to clean the boom track, so the outhaul car would travel cleanly. Removed the cunningham hook so the sail would feed in and slide (that outhaul car hasn't been that far up the boom in 14 years) The outhaul line is internal in the boom and runs to the goose neck. I figured I could feed the bolt rope at the mast and draw it home with the out haul. With the wind piping up, I was going as fast as I could go. I took the new main out of the bag, located the leech corner with out unrolling the sail (so it wouldn't get blown into the water) Started to feed the foot into the boom slot. Surprise, surprise. It wouldn't stay in the track. I had spent over an hour on prep that wasn't necessary. By now the wind is blowing, gangbusters. One of my Dock buddies came aboard and helped me set the full battens. He couldn't understand how they went. Had to explain how the pocket closures worked. Thank the Lord he came to help. I wouldn't have made it without him. I even mentioned your name and Bobsprit's. I gave thanks neither one of you were here Thought I'd give you a run down so you and RB could have your laugh Ole Thom |

So, what you're saying is, you like to sail as slowly as possible?

Even though there is a big difference between a Formula One car and the family Toyota, there's much less difference between the family cruiser, and a casual cruiser/racer. Ave Imperator Bush!
