It was with great dismay that I read the latest contributions to alt.
sailing.asa.

I had hoped that the new, so-called and self-proclaimed newsgroup
leadership would not allow things to become so out of control.
There simply is no justification for such debasement of what used
to be an example of creativity and good humor.

I am saddened when I see newbies hung up as trophies. I am
disgusted when I see the typical, obese, smug, cruel and psychopathic,
long time trollers standing in front of a string of dead fish and who
are proud they conquered said fish by utilizing a boat and equipment
which has not been upgraded in years and years. This makes them
examples of big, proud newsgroup trollers?

Negative! That makes them losers - sad and disgusting losers.

What's even worse than these losers is any camp follower who
capitalizes on images of cruelty to animals to swell their ego.
Recent studies have proven that fish feel pain just like other
animals feel pain. To hook a fish, play it until it is exhausted,
gaff it and haul it aboard to entertain camp followers is just plain
sick.

Do the same thing to a raccoon, pelican, dog or cat and you
will be arrested. Playing with life - any life - is not admirable behavior.
Most 'played' and released fish die because all their energy reserves
are exhausted from the struggle and injuries between fish and
well trained trolling machine. Where's the glory in such cruelty
when the odds are all on the side of the troller? It's one thing to
catch a fish to feed a human's stomach. It's quite another thing to
catch a fish to feed a human's ego!

Worse yet, where's the glory for any camp follower encouraging and
normalizing such an aberration? Why does any groupie wish to feed
a human's ego at the great suffering of any of God's creatures? Isn't it
time that at least one newsgroup took a stand and made a statement
against cruelty to animals instead of supporting it so as to get a few
jollies and to emulate all the other tawdry examples of unmoderated
newsgroups gone awry? Isn't it about time at least one newsgroup
took a stand against cruelty to animals by exposing sport trolling
for what it is.

After all, somebody needs to tell it like it is. Sport trolling is no sport.
Sport trolling is cruelty to animals. People who are proud to have their
pictures taken with victims of their cruelty are not people to be admired
and publicized. These people are sad and disgusting. Even sadder and
more disgusting are those who would proffer said behavior as normal
behavior.

Please, Booby and gang, have a little pity on the likes of Danny Taddei
and other such newbies who just don't get it.

S'matter, camp follower? Don't like being exposed for what
you are? Everyone knows you are no sailor but you still hang
around hoping maybe a newbie or two will be fooled once
in a while. You and Booby are two iterations of the same
failed genes. That's what happens when a hillbilly mates

Cappy I sympathize with your position on this matter. I can almost agree
with it in part. Unfortunately It was Danny's comment on his hatred of
sharks because they "got in his way" and thus had to be shot.............
that was posted at the exact moment in time when my bottle of amber
overproof ran dry! Even you good Capt. can understand the sudden change in
temperament induced when faced with such a situation. The chum trail had
been laid by the victim and my response to initiate a feeding frenzy had
already been established.

Despite his many opportunities to save face he has failed to rise to the
occasion. Newbies must learn that when they venture onto the water....
ignorance of the fuana is no excuse.

To put it bluntly, sir, what those whose entire newsgroup life
consists of trolling and only trolling accomplish is no more
of a challenge than having sex with a prostitute. Yet these
people who have no sense of accomplishment continue to
act as if what they do is a major accomplishment.

To both the troller and the John, a bare hook and a fistful of
dollars is bait sufficient to accomplish the dead. Those who
allow themselves to be constantly trolled and never spit out
a bare hook are just as bad as those who proffer said hook.
Both demonstrate they are bereft of pride and originality.

In a very real sense both are prostitutes. Therefore, those
who enjoy or even abide what they do are also Johns.

It is bad enough that said Johns have no life, no boat, do
not sail and could not sail even if they desired to do so.
But, what's worse is these pretenders seem to feel they
are the life of the party when they are dregs and derelicts
to whom the term, "constructive pursuits" has no meaning.

They serve as the center of attention to an audience that
sits around in a voyeuristic circle jerking themselves off.

It's a sad state of affairs.
