Hi everyone,
I'm completely new to outboards and to this group so forgive me if I type rubbish! I have just bought an old (80's) Plancraft Stingray speedboat with a Mariner 60E 2-stroke 2 cylinder outboard. I went out in it last week with a friend who was in his RIB. The engine was difficult to start - I tried all kinds of variations of choke and throttle... it did start eventually but didn't want to idle and was difficult to get into gear without the engine spluttering to a halt. When opened up, it ran like a dream and once the engine was warm it was easy to restart. After stopping for an hour or so, it was difficult to start again and "lumpy" at lower revs, stalling at idle. I have a service manual but would like some ideas of where to start - if there is a few simple things I can try before taking it to a professional then I'd love to know! I've bought new plugs and will fit them soon. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. David, UK |
