![]() I will be in Vancouver mid November for a conference, and want to stay on for a holiday and do some sea kayaking. I have been drooling over websites, but most of the organised tours and rentals seem to end by the end of September. What can I expect in November? I suppose days will be shorter, it will be colder, and more wind possibly? I am just starting out sea kayaking but have done fla****er and whitewater paddling before and have a solid roll. Regularly paddling now on Scottish coastal waters. I am looking for something sheltered coastal, not big open water crossings, and once I have persuaded boyfriend to come along I won't need an organised tour, just boat rental and some local advice. Any tips for good companies? There seem to be hundreds of them on Vancouver Island! And what are good places to go to in that time of year? Any other tips? Thanks, Roos |

Thanks, Roos google the following clubs: Sea Kayak Assn of BC (SKABC) Pacific International Kayak Assn (PIKA) for whitewater (and pool session info): Whitewater Kayak Assn of BC (WKABC) Vancouver Kayak club (VKC) retail outlets for advice and rental: Western Canoe and Kayak Ecomarine There are lots of summer tour companies. They usually wrap up for the season by then. Others offer trips to Baja and warmer climes. In November in Vancouver, the rivers are up, the ocean is cold, it's often windy, and people are waiting to ski. It is not pleasant camping. Day trips and fitness paddling are often still good. Off the west coast, the storms are starting to arrive. Suggestion: go to Tofino and Long Beach to watch the huge waves from winter storms, not to paddle. Paddling in them is not for the faint of heart or beginners. And bring your skis, because Whistler might be open by then. go to www.city.vancouver.bc.ca for links to tourism, weather, etc. good luck good luck |
