Save the 'HMS' Rose / 'HMS' Surprise
Currently this ship - now renamed HMS Surprise - is languishing apparently sans any crew in San Diego Harbour as a mere tourist attraction; a left over from the film "Master & Commander." Previously to that she was owned and operated by the 'HMS' Rose Foundation for sail training, even sailing across the Atlantic (in a storm force 11 gale) to the UK and Europe. There she starred in such places as St. Katherines' Dock near the Tower of London and at Brest '96 Maritime Festival. It would be great to get her sailing again. But apparently she's even without certification. Does anyone know of any email or fax addresses that we can contact to put pressure on the current owner - Columbia Pictures - for the return of the 'HMS' Rose back to sailing condition, and a restart of her sail training programme? Further info. can be found at the 'HMS' Rose supporters' web site at http://www.tallshiprose.org/ A newsletter can be found at http://www.tallshiprose.org/info/newsletter.asp CJB |
