Default Ferry cross the Mersey

Your photos are of the MV Cathlamet, one of the many Washington State
Ferries the ply the Puget Sound. As you can see, the weather can make up a
bit. There was one ferry, the MV Kalakala that was an art deco design that
was a terrible rough weather sailor with a great deal of pitch and roll even
in a moderate sea.

M/V Cathlamet

Features / ADA Information
Main Cabin Galley: Yes Car Deck ADA Shelter: No

ADA Notes: The MV Cathlamet has elevator access from the auto
deck to the passenger deck. Notify a ticket seller if you are traveling by
car and need to park near an elevator. The vessel has accessible restrooms
located on the main passenger deck. The main passenger deck also has vending
and newspaper machines.

I think that the Mersey Ferries would give their eye teeth for these
boats.

As it stands they they are so starved of money from the local PTA they
are using boats from the end of the 50's - early 60's which they are
reskinning as and when they can.

Thanks for posting Ducky. A rough ride makes for some great pictures
though.

I'm glad I'm not onboard, history learns that I would be seasick.
I never had that with normal sailboats.
BTW, nice shots.

Well apart from the effect's on my personal well being, I wonder what it
does to the wellbeing of the cars parked on deck. It looks to me the ticket
includes a rather intense car-wash for free. You wouldn't want to
discover you've forgotten to close the windows after a ride like this.

Default Ferry cross the Mersey

I've been on this crossing a number of times; my sister lives on the
Clinton, WA side of the trip. The sea has always been nearly flat
calm when I've been aboard, and I have only been parked on the
lower-center vehicle deck once; normally for busses, trucks, and
trailers.

An "interesting" thought is that every time I've ridden the
Washington State Ferry System, motorcycles have always been loaded
farthest forward on that deck. My relatives - who live on Whidbey
Island and in Mukilteo tell me that in unkind weather, the cycle
riders are asked to stay with their bikes so they don't fall off their
stands. Imagine getting a few minutes of that "gentle salt breeze"
right in the face!

Cheers, Walter
