FS: Westsail 32 in Seattle area
Going to look at boat advertised such a fashion means you KNOW that when you
get there the boat will have many hidden problems, If I followed your logic on this, I'd never have gotten deals on two of my boats. Asking price is a starting point. I was "asking" for 33K for a 1984 Cal 35 last year. I feel sorry for anyone who was "scared off" by that price because she went for just 17.5K. Asking price means little. Meanwhile, why do you haunt this poor fellow if you're not buying his boat? RB ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rec.boats.marketplace is a moderated newsgroup. The seller *IS* telling you something when he somehow fails to mention
price, I looked at a 1982 C&C 38 during the winter with no listed price. The owner wanted me to see her before discussing it. Based on a few pics he sent, I went to check her out in Huntington. She was 99% Bristol and his price turned out to be 45K. Hardly steep for what the boat was. I brokered the boat for him and she sold by Spring to the 1st couple that looked at her. Making your rules based on people's ads is pretty silly. Some folks are just weird about ads and how they write them. Professionals NEVER make the prospect work for the
information. He's not a professional, Jax. RB plainly. And professionals who stay a professional don't try to ask an above market price for below market goods. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rec.boats.marketplace is a moderated newsgroup. failure to make even the slightest mention of price
is a clear sign the seller believes he is asking an above market price for a below market boat. It ALWAYS means that. How does this effect you? It's his boat, his price. we all lose when charlottans whore the market. RB ---------------------------------------------------------------------- rec.boats.marketplace is a moderated newsgroup. Bob, you misunderstand. The NOT mentioning the price is the red flag. ALWAYS
is. Bob, you have six months professional selling experience, I have thirty years.
If you think you have one exception to the rule, you think you have one exception to the rule. I stand by my statement. The seller *IS* telling you something when he somehow fails to mention price, I looked at a 1982 C&C 38 during the winter with no listed price. The owner wanted me to see her before discussing it. Jax, I've been brokering boats for a bit longer than six months and I've been doing very well at it. The bottom line is that you haven't seen the fellow's boat. From his webpage it looks well above average and is repowered. His asking price is whatever he cares to make it, and it fits well within other 32s listed online. In fact HALF of the 20 Westsail 32s on Yachtworld are listed with higher prices. Boats that are "deal pending" are all higher than his as well. This utterly dismantles your statements. Furthermore, Jack Horner's price range shows quite a range, bwteen 30 and 70K. Calling this guy names is just silly. He's selling his boat at a price some buyers are willing to pay. That's his business. You seem to be offended that he's not offering you a bargain. Your friend may find that magic bargain Westsail, but I doubt it will in the league of the better boats on the market. Jax, are you nuts or just having a bad day? You don't know this guy. You've never seen his boat, so you can only guess at it's worth. Still worse, you're calling this fellow names now? For what? I'm out of this debate. I'm showing a Tartan 37 tomorrow for WELL above market value...because it's worth it. To the fellow with the Westsail, best of luck to you. You have a very pretty boat and I hope you get a nice deal when you sell her.
