Default FS: Ferro cement hull with provenance in San Francisco, CA

As ferro goes this boat has been built to last. It includes a 'during
construction' inspection letter from Joseph Hartog, the designer.

Outfitted for true coastal cruising, or to live aboard, this well
maintained 53' Ketch may be for you.

Check it out...

What would you say a realistic asking price for the vessel would be?
Have you seen the vessel? What are your qualifications?

While the use of concrete as boatbuilding medium is quite valid, the
reality is, that with few exceptions, they are usually pretty ugly,
difficult to insure, and impossible to get finianced by conventional
lenders. Most of the time, they look better as sidewalks...

I've been in the marine industry in SF Bay for eight years, and there
is NO ferro worth that money, anywhere, no matter what the
appointments are, in that size range in this economy. IF the boat was
an inspected vessel it would be worth more than the $20k it's worth
now, but not 175k, come on!

Due to reputation, insurance and financing problems associated with Ferro built
boats, her value is overstated. She's also 30 years old.
Her price, if in ideal condition should be at least 75K less.

Everything has a price. No reasonable offers will be rejected...

(Also, this posting board really works! I was beginning to lose interest...)

I agree 100%. I have seen a few ferro boats which would serve humanity
best as artificial reefs. There is no doubt ferro hulls are best left
to the history books.

The one we are listing ranks at the top of them. In terms of constant
maintenance and upgrading by the original(and still) owner for all
these years, I must say, it is capable of cruising for several years
to come. My only complaint, being 6'2", is the head room has been
custom fit at around 5'8". The subset of buyers is small, to say the
least.

When an owner has so much respect for his boat, who am I to say it's
worth any less? I'm just the messenger.
