More idiocy. I've had a Samsung 214T monitor for my Windoze Desktop for
at least three years, and it has never hiccuped.

Pssst, there's a big difference between a computer monitor and a HD
television.

You're comparing CRT and LCD display technology in this example. *It's quite
a bit easier to design a reliable LCD display than one using a CRT. *Lower
voltages and lower power dissipation in the LCD units.

If there is a large number reliability problems with OPs model TV, I'll take
a SWAG and say it's under-specified electrolytic capacitors. *Or, bad
capacitors as received from the vendor. *A few years ago there was industry
wide problem in the Far East with capacitors that were not up to specs.

Apparently they are used to this problem. We called Samsung tonight
and they said they would have a guy out within two days to "fix the TV
here on site" as they "already know what the problem is". When dad's
went out, they changed the main board, but it could be the Capacitor
problem you noted as the unit will come on for about 10 seconds then
turn off and the power input button goes out. After being unplugged
for several minutes and repluged, the power input light comes back on,
but once the unit is turned on, it goes out after a few seconds
again...
