Eisboch Ouch! Bad night? No, Eisboch was pointing out the obvious. China is a major player in the political and economic landscape that effects everyone in the world. To ignore them or to ostracizes them will have no impact on their human rights and environmental problems. Nixon, correctly, believed that the best way to impact China's future direction, was by making them a part of Western economy so the west could encourage them to reform their political, economic and social issues. Smithers: Nixon's strategy didnt work very well did it. China gets worse every year since the 1980s in terms of human rights violations. The CORRECT strategy is to him them where it hurts, in the pocketbook. China (and Singapore) are proof that you can have capitalism without human rights. It is up to us to support human rights by making them pay for it. |
