In fact, I don't recall anyone else being called a name, either. What name were *you* called, Herring?- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - I wouldn't worry about it much, Harry. For some reason, 2-3 guys on this board persist on screaming that boatingforum is filled with posts full of insults and name calling. The only one I can find that ever came close is one of yours that remarked the "snarks are trying to destroy rec.boats". Even then, nobody was actually identified as a snark. Not only is name calling (and according to one poster here "pig- piling") the alleged order of the day, but I'm three kinds of hypocrite for allowing it to go on. Folks who have never checked out boatingforum are eager to believe the slander; but then again look at the nature of the group where those people are more customarily found. Speaking of the nature of the group; for my two cents worth I really don't feel like I have a dog in the hunt anymore at rec.boats (but morbid curiousity draws me in when a thread attacking me or boatingforum erupts). I'm getting nasty emails, flaming PM's, and other "fan mail" from folks who believe I've got some magical power to dictate how often people who post to both groups post here, or the content of their posts at this NG. Any rational person knows this is far from true. So even though this place is part of the past and not part of the future as far as I'm concerned, I think it's a shame when folks stand around peeing on the corpse of what was once a useful and enjoyable group. If you're as done here as I am, why not leave Nosepicker, Freak, Wally, Ugly, et al to try to rebuild this thing in peace? I suspect that Scottie's little scouting mission to the boating forum was maybe only the first of additional nonsense that might ensue by other folks confused enough to believe that boatingforum is sending trolls over to rec.boats to stir things up. Heck, one of the folks here even accused somebody of posting Chinese tennis shoe spam to rec.boats to drive traffic to boatingforum. Unfortunately and unfairly, boatingforum is being judged not by the content and tone that actually prevails there, but by the nature of posts that some people who post to more than one boating board are posting elsewhere. To that end, it would be useful if those folks posting to more than one group didn't mention boatingforum elsewhere, especially in wrecked.boats. It would be useful, if for nothing more than general peace and harmony in the universe, if we all restircted our postings everywhere to things we would be willing to say in person.....(while having a confrontation in a biker bar)...but that's my personal opinion, it's been well known for a long time, and that opinion was one of the motivators for starting a group where a standard of civility is expected. |

Get over it chuck,,, we did.... Sure you did. All 152 posts worth and still counting. But should I ever decide to visit rec.boats for the sole purpose of raising hell and then running to whine about the reception elsewhere, I will bear in mind that the magic words "get over it" are an acceptable substitute for an appropriate apology and will somehow transfer the blame for my own bad behavior to the folks I set out ot slander. Pretty useful phrase, isn't it? |

Chuck, You have done a good job of setting up your forum, and hopefully those who enjoy your boating forum, will find it more productive to build a community over there, instead of visiting rec.boats just to stir things up and "enjoy the deviant behavior". When some of the most prolific posters in your forum, are posting 10 to 20 insults in rec.boats to every productive posts they make in boatingforum, it invites more juvenile behavior and name calling, which unfortunately overflows into your group. As you said, it would seem to be a a simple proposal, if you don't like boatingforum, don't go there. If you don't like rec.boats don't go there. If you enjoy both, keep them separate. I know you are not sending anyone over to rec.boats to stir things up, but it has been going on. Hopefully we all can learn from the general civility shown in your group, and ignore obvious trolls and those who visit rec.boats for the sole purpose of stirring up a flamefest. |
