Number of murders and crime down in Chicago CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Police Department says crime is down and the murder rate could be at its lowest in 42 years. The trend in Chicago is part of an overall decline in crime nationwide. Before 2003, Chicago reported more than 600 murders a year. There were 471 murders last year; so far this year, 428 have been reported, Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said. Police are working to dismantle gang leadership and remove drugs and guns from the streets, she said. This year, Chicago police recovered 13,474 guns, including 6,003 from a gun turn-in program. The woman is tough and resilient, tough enough to beat the crap out of the Republicans this fall. I like Barack Obama, but I don't think he is tough enough to take on the Republican smear machine that will be out in full force and, in fact, already is, based upon some dirty ads I've seen. The Indiana primary is one I am going to watch closely. The Clinton's can smear with the best of them my friend. Including attacks on B. Obama. Its the way things work around here. db Indeed. That's part of being "tough" in the current realpolitic... I expect the Republicans to throw whatever they can, real or made-up, against the Democratic nominee. In fact, they're already tossing crap against Obama in North Carolina. Whoever the Democratic nominee is, he or she damn well better be ready to throw it back and more.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Yeah, and Billary can't tell the truth to save their lives.. Now he is saying Obama used the race card.. they have him on tape. The next day he denied it, also on tape... sniper fire indeed. But I know, is, is.... Don't you even care Harry? What I care about is that on inauguration day in January, a Democrat is sworn in as POTUS. Vote McCain, he sucks less. If Obama could accomplish anything, why would Chicago be more dangerous than Iraq?- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - It isn't. That's a well worn out tactic that is based on no fact.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - You should watch the news more often. 10 dead, and nearly 40 shot in Chicago just in the last week.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Still doesn't add up, not by a long shot. Damn close. Is a supposedly modern city in America. Been a Politically controlled town for ever, and this is what we have?- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Nope. No where near close. Demographers say the growth rate in major metropolitan areas is slowing, which also means less crime. Chicago lost 62,000 residents between 2000 and last year, Loyola University professor Kenneth Johnson said. ============================================ "There were 471 murders last year; so far this year, 428 have been reported, Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said." It'll have to be a real slow last seven months for the murder rate not to exceed the "before 2003 rate of 600/year". The city is on track to come close to, or exceed 1,000 this year.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - And you think that's near the number of murders and needless deaths in Iraq?????? Did *I* write that? I just pointed out that Chicago's (I lived there for 50 years) violent crimes are on the up-swing this year. When you extrapolate this the numbers YTD, it doesn't look like crime is down as the article would have you believe after reading the first sentence. You should have posted the date the article was written. That's a 12-2007 piece so the "428 murders" for "this" year actually applies to 12-2007 YTD not YTD 2008. I should have known better to trust some cut and paste here without a date.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Hehttp://www.iraqbodycount.org/database/ It fluctuates, because it's by the week, but you can clearly see that it's between 500 and a thousand per WEEK. How close to that is Chicago's murder rate again? =========================== Read my post above and see if you can understand it.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - You were in agreement with those who have stated in this thread that Chicago is akin to Iraq in numbers of deaths from the hand of others. ===================================== You are a freakin dunder head. I never agreed to any such thing. You claim to have a masters degree in something or another, where did you get your diploma? http://www.fakedegrees.com/-Hidequoted text - - Show quoted text - Try this: FOLLOW.....................THE................THRE AD....... Is that slow enough for you? If you do the above, you'll see what we are discussing here...... ============================================= I'll take one of your tactics. Show me where I agreed that "Chicago is akin to Iraq in numbers of deaths from the hand of others". Can't do it, can you.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - How about when I said that the two (Chicago and Iraq) aren't even close in the terms presented and you disagreed...... ================================= I just came up with challenge for you. If you can copy and paste where I wrote that the homicide rate in Chicago is any where near as bad as the killings in Iraq, I will never post in this group again. If you can't paste that quote from me, you will never post in this group again. Deal?- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - I'll post any damned where I feel like, period. Enlighten, please. What IS your take on people saying Chicago's homicide rate compared to Iraq's? ===================================== Why won't you accept my challenge and copy/paste my remarks? Can't do it, can you? Pretty funny stuff, Mr. Duck. I just don't have the patience you obviously do to deal with someone as intellectually challenged as Loogy. I don't usually either. But it's a little diversion to kill some time. These retirement days aren't always filled with things to do. Golf is fun, takes up time, and provides exercise. -- John *H* (Not the other one!) I just checked my log and I have golfed 57 times since the first of this year. That includes 27 holes today but does not include the numerous times I just go out and practice without keeping score. For people that like golf it's one of the perks for living in Florida. Let us know what your golf log book says in July and August. I guarantee it will be the same. I've been it doing for the past 1-1/2 years since I started playing again after a 20 year layoff. I personally would rather play in the summer months, the heat does not really bother me. Lots of fluids during and a nice shower afterwards. |

But, I compensate by doing four miles on the treadmill and then going to our local heated range to hit 120 balls. Besides, all that heat and sweat just provides another excuse for a sliced shot. You probably don't need the excuses, but hell, I'll take whatever I can get. -- John *H* (Not the other one!) |
