Tough guys, all. :) Go ahead and laugh. Had a rock crab clamp on to my thumb, cutting it. Almost fainted. Had to sit down with my head below my knees. I think they have some kind of venom. That's what I think. --Vic The last time I saw a girl have a crab grab onto the meaty web in between her thumb and forefinger, I just whipped out my trusty Russell belt knife and wedged the claw open. She was grateful. I hope you sucked out the venom. --Vic |

Eisboch You should really check snopes before you post this stuff You didn't think taht photo was taken in orlando, FL, did you? Snopes seeems to have purged their old files but the snake picture was bouncing around Email boxes several years ago. Snopes said they were western rattlesnakes, not the eastern ones we have in Florida and I seem to remember the picture was identified as coming from Texas. The gator was Florida somewhere but not Orlando airport. I think it was FPL guys http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/culvert.asp |

They were attributed to Florida Power and Light and referenced construction at Orlando airport. Probably a hoax, but still impressive. Eisboch |

Eisboch You should really check snopes before you post this stuff You didn't think taht photo was taken in orlando, FL, did you? I doubt it is a *real* photo. If it is, the perspective indicates it is among the largest alligators in existence. It looks a lot larger than 15'. It looks even larger than the "record" American alligator found in Louisiana.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - but, but wait a minute! When someone mentioned your swelled up chubby hands you attributed it to focal length. |

I've trekked canoed camped etc. all over the Florida swamps. All I can say is that's a hell of a photoshop job! The snakes are most likely a real photo. They do next like that in the winter for added warmth. A bunch of years ago, a buddy's neighbor in Pinole, CA had the wife complain about a bussing coming from under the kitchen sink. Was a large nest of rattlesnakes under the house below the kitchen. We have rattle snakes in the area. The local hospital averages 9 snakebites a year. Almost all involve beer and people out on Mines Rd. in Livermore. |

There is a Rattlesnake Roundup in a small town outside of Tampa, FL and those swampbillies know rattlesnakes. They hardly ever come with any more than a dozen to the roundup. My wife's sister walks a path in a park near her house in Walnut Creek that seems to see it's share of rattlers. Personally, and again, I'm a woods exploring kind of person, I've never seen one in your area. I know they are there, just never seen one, even on the slopes of Mt. Diablo. |
