Default Canoe rack for 2009 Matrix

Hello

Anyone got a Roof rack for the 2009 Matrix yet?

The toyota "Luggage carrier" is way back on the roof which is
not good for 16' canoes

Thulé does not have a rack for 2009 matrix yet.

The rep. at the car rack store tells me that when Thule gets
a rack it will probably fit in the roof holes for the Toyota
rack. This would place the rack far back on the roof (looks
like the front rack would be almost behind the front door).

Yakima has a rack with Q-tower and hooks in the door openings.
It would be at a normal position (not far back) but the rep.
tells me this type of setup is sometime problematic because
the hooks are at a very high angle and, if not fitted very
carefully, the rack can slip out.

Plus the yakima is rated to 100 lbs only. Not enough for two
canoes.

I dont want a flimsy rack and will not buy the car until i
am sure i can get a decent rack.

If anyone has first hand experience with the yakima rack i would
appreciate the information.

Thanks,

Sylvain

What about just using the foam gunnel things?

I have used 2 for sitting my kayak on a car without roof racks and no
problems.

Another idea.... Buy a small trailer and have it such that you can haul
canoes on it.
